The Unicorns aren't Number One anymore! Can you believe there's a new club at Sweet Valley Middle School? They call themselves the Eight Times Eight Club - and they're trying to outdo us at everything. We've been volunteering at the day-care center, so now they help at the Humane Society. Lila threw another one of her amazingly cool parties - and the Eights just gave the biggest bash of the decade! Even I thought it was time to retaliate. So we decided to take our act to TV!
Being on the Best Friends show seemed like the perfect way to prove we're the better club. All we have to do is guess each other's favourite foods, most embarrassing moments, and worst dates . . . We thought we couldn't lose. Until we found out the Eights are going to be our opponents. Now it's war. We have to win - or the entire world will think the Unicorns are Number Two!

The Unicorns vs. the Eights

Jessica cleared her throat loudly as the Eights passed by us. "Yeah, Brandon Blitzen called Elizabeth personally yesterday to ask us to be on the Best Friends show," she announced, tilting her head to make sure the Eights overheard her. Amanda stopped dead in her tracks, and so did her friends. "He want's us to be on the show as soon as possible," Jessica went on. "Right Elizabeth?"
"Well..." I started to say. Jessica gave me this look as if to say, Come on, Elizabeth, ack me up on this! "Actually, they called me the second they got my letter." When I glanced over at Amanda, she was staring at me.
"Are you serious?"
"We're scheduled to appear next Thursday," Maria said. "Live and in person."
"Anyway, we'd love to tell you more, but we have to practice now," Lila said. "Come on, you guys. We still have a few minutes." She started walking toward the big oak tree in front of school.
"I think Amanda's worst nightmare just came true," Lila said as soon as we were out of earshot. "There's no way they can outdo us this time!"
