2001 Whittemore Speedway Limited Late Model Rules

 

*Anyone wishing to drive in the limited late model division must have at least 2 years of oval track racing experience.

 

*Owners and drivers, YOU are responsible for the actions of each member of your pit crew (this includes family members).

 

*All cars must have a full body, doors, hoods, etc., at the beginning of each race.

 

*APPEARANCE:  All cars must be completely and neatly painted.

 

*BATTERY:  One (1) only, located out of drivers compartment.

 

*BODY:

1.      Body must be neat appearing.

2.      Bodies must be steel, aluminum, or fiberglass.

3.      All cars must be completely stripped of interior.

4.      Floor pan in drivers compartment must be steel and welded in.

5.      All cars must have full windshields and rear windows.  All other glass must be removed.

6.      NO RUDDERS OR SIDEBOARDS.

7.      All cars must have stock nosepiece.  ASA/Howe, etc. may be used.

8.      Rear of car must be enclosed.  Minimum of fifteen inches (15”) from top of rear deck.

9.      No flatted, square corner or 90 degree panels.

10.  Driver must be separated from engine, fuel cell, fuel lines and oil system by metal firewalls.

 

*BRAKES: Working disc brakes on all four (4) wheels.  NO BRAKE FLOATERS.

 

*CARBURETOR: Holley 2 bbl. #4412 only, unaltered, except for removal of choke horn, choke shaft, and butterfly.  1” spacer may be used.

 

*COOLANT: Water is the only coolant allowed.

 

*CLUTCH: Racing clutches are allowed.  Cars not having a reduced diameter racing clutch assembly must have a steel scattershield.  Dry clutches only.

 

*DRIVESHAFT: Must be painted white and have front and rear hoops – no chains.  Two steel drive shaft hoops mandatory.  No aluminum drive shafts.

 

*ENGINE:

1.      360 cubic inches maximum.

2.      Cast iron blocks only.

3.      NO aluminum heads allowed.

4.      12.5 to 1 maximum compression ratio.

5.      No roller camshafts or roller lifters.

6.      Roller rockers are allowed.

7.      Aluminum intakes are allowed.

8.      Lifter diameter: .842 (GM) - .875 (FORD) - .900 (CHRYSLER)

9.      No mushroom lifters.

10.  Ported/Altered heads are allowed.

11.  NO dry sump oiling system allowed.

 

*ENGINE LOCATION:

1.      The forwardmost spark plug must be within one inch (1”) of the centerline of the adjacent ball joint.

2.      Ten inches (10”) from crank center line to ground at four inch (4”) ground clearance of frame at lowest point after race.

 

*EXHAUST: Headers are allowed.  Must be completely sealed (no leaks).  Exhaust must exit behind driver.  Mufflers are mandatory (100 decibel limit).

 

*FIRE EXTINGUISHER: A 5 lb. ABC type only.  Must be working and located in easy reach of driver and track personnel.

 

*FIRE SUITS:  All drivers MUST wear an approved fire suit in good/safe condition in all events.

 

*FRAME:  Minimum wheelbase 101”.  Frames may be completely fabricated or have stock front sub assembly (2”x2”-.095 thickness minimum) (2”x3”-.095 thickness tubing recommended).  See weight rules.

 

*FUEL:  Pump gas only.  No fuel additives.

 

*FUEL SYSTEM:  Fuel cells mandatory.  Must have steel container.  8” minimum ground clearance.  No fuel lines in drivers compartment.  Gas caps must be secured by chain to car.  NO NITROUS OXIDE ALLOWED.  Electric fuel pumps are not allowed.

 

*HELMETS:  Mandatory in all events.  Must be Snell 95 approved and in good/safe condition.

 

*HOODS:  Must be securely fastened.  Must have at least three (3) hood pins across front.  Air cleaners are mandatory, 4”x14” maximum and may protrude through hood for clearance reasons only.

 

*HUBS:  9/16” minimum wheel studs with 1 inch (1”) minimum hex lug nut mandatory.

 

*IGNITION:  Factory type only.  NO MAGNETOS, BATTERY OPERATED IGNITION ONLY.

 

*INSPECTION:  Tech inspector shall have the right to inspect any competitors vehicle to insure compliance with any rule.

 

*MIRRORS:  Not allowed

 

*NAME:  The drivers name must appear above both doors visible to the timing tower.

 

*NECK BRACE:  An approved neck brace must be worn.

 

*NUMBERS:  Car numbers of a contrasting color must appear on both doors and roof.  Numbers must be a minimum of 18” high with a minimum 4” stroke.  A 6”x1” white number must appear in the upper right corner of windshield.

 

*RADIATOR:  Any type may be used.  Must not alter sheet metal of body and must be mounted in front of engine.  A one (1) gallon plastic catch can must be used for overflow and mounted on right side of firewall in engine compartment.

 

*REAR AXLE:  Floaters or quick change only.

 

*REGISTRATION:  All drivers and owners must be registered in order to compete in any event.  Registration for all drivers and owners is $25.00.  Advance registration may be done by mail by sending registration fees to Whittemore Speedway – P.O. Box 265 – Whittemore, MI 48770 or at the speedway during Test & Tune sessions prior to opening day.

 

*ROLL CAGE:  A full roll cage with a minimum 1 3/4” - .095 wall thickness tubing must be used.  Must be gusseted on all corners and braced front and rear.  A minimum of four (4) sissy bars on drivers door is mandatory with a minimum 18” x 24” x 1/8” steel plate welded to sissy bars for driver protection.  NO GALVANIZED OR TOLERANCE PIPE ALLOWED.

 

*RUB RAILS:  Allowed.  1”x1” maximum tubing only and must be securely mounted to frame and/ or roll cage.

 

*SEAT:  Racing seats are mandatory.  Must be securely mounted to frame and/or roll cage.

 

*SEAT BELTS:  Mandatory.  Five (5) point minimum.  Quick release lap belt securely mounted to roll cage and frame. Must be coded and dated 5 year maximum.

 

*SHOCKS:  One (1) shock per wheel.  Racing shocks and adjustable shocks are allowed.  NO AIR OR ALUMINUM.

 

*SPOILERS:  Clear lexan 68” x 8” maximum.  Forty-three inch (43”) maximum height from ground to top of spoiler.  Three (3) triangular braces (18” in length and not to exceed spoiler height) may be used for support.  (SEE DIAGRAM)

 

*STARTERS:  All cars must have a working starter at all times.

 

*SUSPENSION:

1.      Tubular upper A arms and rack and pinion steering are allowed on stock front sub assembly frames.

2.      NO driver operated weight transfer devices.

3.      No spring loaded rear suspension linkages.

4.      No computer operated traction devices allowed.

5.      Any cast iron or tube steel spindles allowed.  No aluminum spindles.

6.      No cutting or welding of spindles.

7.      Four inch (4”) minimum ground clearance at lowest point of frame.

 

*TIRES:  Hoosier Sportsman 27.0/8.0/15 or 26.5/8.0/15 (any combination).

 

*TRANSMISSION:  Must have a minimum of two (2) working forward gears and one (1) working reverse gear.  Quick change transmission are allowed.  All other made for racing transmissions are not allowed.

 

*WEIGHT:

1.      Stock front sub cars: 2850# with driver before race.

2.      Fabricated front sub cars : 3000# with driver before race.

3.      56% maximum left side weight, measured with driver – All Cars.

4.      Added weight must be securely mounted with a minimum of two (2) ½” bolts.

5.      Tube front suspension cars with stock lower control arms with 5” or 5 ½” coil springs must secure 15 lbs. of weight to each side of the front sub frame (total 30 lbs.) between the bell housing and the front motor mounts.

 

*WHEELS:  Eight inch (8”) maximum width made for racing wheels only.

 

*WINDOW NETS:  Approved driver side window net with quick release mechanism securely attached to roll cage is mandatory.

 

*WRECKERS HOOKS:  Mandatory front and rear.  Subject to tech inspection.

 

*CONVERTED LATE MODELS OR SIMILAR FABRICATED FRONT SUB FRAME CARS:

1.      Must secure 30# of weight to each side of the front sub frame (total of 60#) between the bellhousing and the front motor mounts.

2.      Cars must weigh 3000#.

3.      Rack and pinion steering is allowed.

4.      Coil-overs allowed.

5.      Wide 5 hubs and rims allowed.

6.      All other Limited Late Model rules apply with the exceptions noted above.

7.      Whittemore Racine Club officials may adjust the weight of cars to even the competition if necessary.

DECKLID – The top surface of the deck lid MUST NOT be dished.  There should be no area of the decklid lower than the height at the top of the quarter panels.

 

FENDERS – A minimum of ½” radius is required on the tops of fenders. No 90 degree breaks permitted.  The rear fender flap immediately behind the rear tire MUST GRADUALLY angle up from a minimum 8” ground clearance to minimum 14” ground clearance at the rear of the quarter panel.  Width of rear fenders must GRADUALLY TAPER from the body width at the tires to the width at the rear spoiler.  (No straight quarters with an abrupt kick in just before the rear spoiler).

 

REAR FILLER PANEL – A rear filler panel is mandatory.  It must be made of a solid material.  15: x Body Width, Filler must be vertical (perpendicular to the ground) mounted to the decklid and directly beneath the base of spoiler.

 

 

NOTE: These rules may be changed/altered from time to time if deemed necessary.
