Air Force J.R.O.T.C. Ranks

On this page you will find a complete list of the enlisted and officer ranks.


Airman Basic:

All cadets start at this rank. (No requirement)


Airman:(AMN)

- pass the "Basic Cadet Training Program"
- pass the USAF/JROTC Airman examination with 100% score (test can be taken once every 2 weeks).
- Be enrolled in the program for at least 30 days and have worn the uniform every required uniform day.
- Must be able to demonstrate with proficency, the following drill commands:

1.Attention
2.Left Face
3.Right Face
4.About Face
5.DressRight
6.Salute and report in a military manor
7.Fall out/in
8.Parade Rest
9.At ease
10.Dress Left

- Be recomended by either JROTC instructor, or flight commander, or assistant flight commander.
- Attend most of the AFJROTC activities.


Airman First Class:(A1C)

- In grade of Airman for a minimum of 6 weeks.
- Accademic average of "C" or better.
- Pass A1C examination with a minimum of 70%.
- Pass Air Force Rank Test with 100%.
- Must demonstrate with proficency, the Airman drill requirments listed above, plus the following drill commands;
1.Foreward March
2.Close Ranks
3.Column left and right
4.Half Step
5.Extend Ranks
6.Flight Halt
- Be recomended by either JROTC instructor, or flight commander, or assistant flight commander.
- Attend most of the AFJROTC activities.
Note: Remaining ranks must have their promotion sheets meet a promotion board of their peers. Additionslly every cadet must attain a 100% on the AFJROTC rank test.


Senior Airman:(SrA)

- In grade of A1C for a minimum of 6 weeks.
- Academic average of "C" or higher.
- Pass the Sergeants examination with a minimum of 80%.
- Be able to perform 29 drill commands as direced by the ASI.
- Minimum 50 promotion points.
- Be recommanded by either JROTC instructor, your flight commander or assistant flight commander.
- Attend most of the JROTC activities


Staff Sergeant:(SSgt)

- In grade of SrA for a minimum of 6 weeks.
- Academic average of "C+" pr better.
- Be able to Give 29 drill commands as directed by the ASI.
- Minimum of 75 promotion points.
- Be recommanded by either JROTC instructor and your flight commander or group commander.
- Complete promtion data sheet.
- Attend most of AFJROTC activities.


Technical Sergeant:(TSgt)

- In grade fo SSgt for a minimum of 6 weeks.
- Academic average of "C+" or better.
- Minimum 100 promtion points.
- Be recommanded by either JROTC instructor and your flight commander or group commander.
- Complete promtion data sheet.
- Attend most JROTC activities.


Master Sergeant:(MSgt)

- In grade fo TSgt for a minimum of 6 weeks.
- Academic average of "C+" or better.
- Minimum 135 promtion points.
- Effectivly teach all 29 commands to a flight.
- Hold a Staff posstion for at least one quarter.
- Be recommanded by either JROTC instructor and your flight commander or group commander.
- Complete promtion data sheet.
- Attend most JROTC activities.


Senior Master Sergeant:(SMSgt)

- In grade fo MSgt for a minimum of 6 weeks.
- Academic average of "B" or better.
- Minimum 150 promtion points.
- Satisfactory performance in a Staff posstion for at least one semester.
- Be recommanded by either JROTC instructor and your flight commander or group commander.
- Complete promtion data sheet.
- Attend most JROTC activities.


Chief Master Sergeant(CMSgt)

- In grade fo SMSgt for a minimum of 6 weeks.
- Academic average of "B+" or better.
- Be able to demonstrate leadership ability.
- Minimum 175 promtion points.
- Be recommanded by either JROTC instructor and your flight commander or group commander.
- Three page aerospace prodject, or paper.
- Oral report about a leadership topic or skill.
- Complete promtion data sheet.
- Attend most JROTC activities.


Promotion to the Rank of Officer

- In grade a minimum of 10 weeks.
- Academic average of "B" or better.
- Hold a possition of responcibility and be able to demonstrate leadership ability.(NCOIC, Asst OIC, Flt Sgt, etc.)
- Have demonstrated a respect for rank.
- Have required promotion points and complete promotion data sheet.
- Must attend Summer Leadership Program.
- Attend most of AFJROTC activities.

Airman- 0pts.
Airman First Class- 0pts.
Senior Airman- 50pts.
Staff Sergeant- 75pts.
Technical Sergeant- 100pts.
Master Sergeant- 125pts.
Senior Master Sergeant- 150pts.
Chief Master Sergeant- 175pts.
OFFICER:(or as determined by the SASI)
Second Lieutenant- 200pts.
First Lieutenant- 225pts.
Captain- 250pts.
Major- 275pts.
Lieutenant Colonel- 325pts.
Colonel- (rank only available to certain cadets)
