Alice In Wonderland
1951
Stars: Voices of Kathryn Beaumont, Ed Wynn, Richard Haydn, Sterling Holloway, Jerry Colonna, Verna Felton.
Director: Clyde Geronimi,Wilfred Jackson.
Plot: A Disney adaption of Lewis Carroll's Alice In Wonderland/Through The Looking Glass. The story is about a girl Alice(voice Kathryn Beaumont) who one day follows a white rabbit(voice Bill Thompson) into a burrow and is swifted into a weird and wild world. She meets up with many strange characters such as the Chesire cat(voice of Sterling Holloway) who guides her through Wonderland and has the ability to disappear and reappear at any called time. She also comes across the Mad Hatter(voice of Ed Wynn) and March Hare(voice of Jerry Colonna) who are having an "unbirthday" party. She finds guidance in the Caterpillar(voice of Richard Haydn) who towers over her smoking a pipe. Later she confronts the wicked Queen Of Hearts who challenges to a game of croquet or as she says to Alice" off with her head". Alice must find a way to get home or else she's a goner.
My Thoughts: This is probably my favorite Disney movie. Many people didn't like it because it wasn't like the other Disney movies but that's exactly why I enjoy it. I despise new Disney movies because they're literally the same story except with a different title, but out of the old ones that I liked, this was my favorite. There are many relations to drugs in this, such as the pills that make Alice bigger or smaller. Also, the Caterpillar is also smoking the pipe which could be related to drugs. The "unbirthday" with the Mad Hatter and March Hare I find is very hilarious. Also, when Alice and the Queen Of Hearts are playing croquet, I like how they use flamingos as croquet sticks. Each character was very different in the movie and that made it interesting. The Cheshire cat seemed sneaky and only gave Alice pieces of important information, while the Caterpillar was a realible resource, and the Queen Of Hearts was just plain mean. Unlike many other Disney movies where the main character always has a boyfriend or girlfriend(Aladdin and Jasmine, Ariel and Prince Eric), Alice wanders alone and this makes the movie original and creative. There are many funny moments in this, and unlike most Disney movies, older kids and adults will enjoy this because it's more mature than other Disney movies. It has great animation and I would recommend this to people who are looking for something different and original.
