Alien
1979
Stars: Sigourney Weaver, Tom Skerritt, Harry Dean Stanton, Veronica Cartwright, Ian Holm, John Hurt, Yaphet Kotto.
Director: Ridley Scott.
Plot: The story is about a ship in outer space that unknownly has an alien lifeforce on their ship. The captain Dallas(Tom Skerritt) is the captain of the ship, and the rest of the cast is the crew onboard the ship. Sigourney Weaver plays Ripley, Harry Dean Stanton as Brett, Veronica Cartwright as Lambert, Ian Holm is Ash, John Hurt as Kane, and Yaphet Kotto is Parker. The creature that's terrorizing them is hideous and is able to crawl on walls and ceilings and go through walls. There are also smaller creatures called face huggers that jump onto a human's face and plant an egg in the victim's mouth. Later, without notice, another creature known as a chest burster, does exactly what its name is. It will literally burst right through the human's stomach killing them.
My Thoughts: I remember seeing this at a young age and being really scared. The key thing that makes this work is not showing the creature all the time. Like many other great movies(Jaws,Texas Chainsaw Massacre,Psycho), I find it much more scarier when the director doesn't show what happens or what's behind the door because then you get to make up your own image of what's happening. Sigourney Weaver's did a great job playing a lead character especially in a time when leads were hardly ever given to women. The rest of the cast does a fine job with their characters. The scene where the chest burster shoots out of John Hurt's character Kane scared that crap out of me. Then when you see the little creature crawl around the table is freaky. Out of the four Alien movies, I found this one the best which is usually the case with movies that have sequals, the first one is the best. You can read my thoughts about those movies back at the movie list. This is definately a great scare movie and should be watch with a bunch of friends and with the lights turned off. It's one of my favorite horror/sci-fi movies ever.
