Alien Resurrection

1997

Stars: Sigourney Weaver, Ron Pearlman, Winona Ryder, Michael Wincott, Dominique Pinon, Kim Flowers, Gary Dourdan.

Director: Jean-Pierre Jeunet

Plot: Well, Ripley's(Sigourney Weaver) back, sorta. Since we all know that in the 3rd movie, we see a chest burster shoot out of her chest, she's no longer a human but a clone. 200 hundred years after she sacrificied her life so that the alien in her would die, a company has cloned her, hoping to have extracted the queen alien that was inside of her. They thought it was taken out, but she still feels it inside of her. Now on a new ship, Betty, she's with a new group of people from the United Systems Military. They too plan to capture the alien species and try to study even though everyone else who has tried to do this has failed and ultimately has been killed. Elgyn(Michael Wincott) is the leader of the ship Betty while Johner(Ron Perlman), Vriess(Dominique Pinon), Hillard(Kim Flowers) and Christie(Gary Dourdan) round out as the rest of the crew. Johner is the type of solider who doesn't give a shit about anyone but is very funny about displaying these feelings. Vriess is paralyze and rides around in this little land rover like machine that transports him around the ship. Hillard is the main pilot of the ship and Christie is just one of the crew members. Winona Ryder is also onboard as Annalee Call who is hiding an important secret from the crew. There is also a new breed of aliens which is known as the "Newborn". This alien looks the most humanlike and is white, stands on two legs, and moves like a human.

My Thoughts: An improvement from the OK Alien 3, this is probably the weirdest alien movie out of the four. Directed by french director Jean-Pierre Jeunet, he uses similar images and style of direction as in his other movies City Of The Lost Children and Delicatessen. When we see Ripley laying in the weird alien ooze and crap with the queen alien in therethe images are very strange and some might consider disturbing. This is also definately the darkest of the four alien movies. Most of the actors do a good job with their part, but Ryder's character is sometimes annoying and acts like a bitch towards Ripley. There are some interesting scenes such as the underwater scene where the aliens attack them while they're trying to escape, swim, and hold their breath the entire time. Also the last scene, where we see the "Newborn" being sucked out of tehe spaceship in little pieces is quiet interesting to look at. For anyone who hasn't seen this, spoiler coming up. I didn't think that it was necessary to have Annalee a cyborg because it didn't add a lot to the movie, she was probably just added so that there'd be an excuse to have a character with no emotions. Overall, I liked this movie even much of it was strange and odd, but some people might think that's it's too bizarre for them. For people who have seen the alien movies before this, I'd recommend that you check this out because it actually improves from the 3rd movie.
