Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me

Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me

1999

Stars: Mike Myers, Heather Graham, Seth Green, Verne Troyer, Michael York, Mindy Sterling, Robert Wagner, Rob Lowe, Kristen Johnston.

Director: Jay Roach.

Plot: The swinger's back, baby! Austin Powers(Mike Myers) is back again to fight against Dr.Evil(Mike Myers again). Instead of going to the 90's to stop Dr.Evil, Austin has traveled back in time back to the 60's to stop the villian. He did this because one of Evil's henchmen, Fat Bastard(Mike Myers once again) has stolen Austin's mojo. It's his job to get back his mojo and he does this with the help of Felicity Shagwell(Heather Graham). He's no longer with Vanessa Kensington because he found out that she was a FemBot. Many of the same villians are back, Frau Farbissina(Mindy Sterling), Number 2(Robert Wagner) and Young Number 2(Rob Lowe) in the past. But there's a new addition to the evil force. It's Mini-Me(Verne Troyer). That's the name Dr.Evil gives to his new sidekick who is 1/8 his size. He was created to help Dr.Evil rule the world. He doesn't talk, he just tries to kill Scott Evil(Seth Green) and hump a giant laser. Basil Exposition(Michael York) is also back and helps Austin on his mission. Like in the last film, there's a women who tries and distract Austin in his journey, Ivana Humpalot(Kristen Johnston). This time, instead of using a giant drill, Dr.Evil plans to put a laser on the moon to destroy earth. Once again Austin and Felicity have to fight off the villians and stop Dr.Evil from carrying out his plot to destroy the world.

My Thoughts: Though many will disagree with me, I thought that the first Austin Powers movie was slightly better than this one. Don't get me wrong, this had a lot of funny characters and moments, but I thought that the first one was really different and original. Some of the really funny scenes in this were any involving Mini-Me, when Felicity and Austin are in a tent, and Scott Evil, but there were too many fart and toilet humor. Mike Myers did a really good job with Fat Bastard, but he was just so digusting that it made his character less likeable. Sometimes the gross-out humor worked, like when Austin drinks a container filled with crap, but lots of the time the movie spends too much time with those kinds of jokes. Mini-Me was definitly the funniest new addition to the movie. Verne Troyer did a great job making his character hilarious. I love Mini Mr.Bigglesworth and when Dr.Evil has to tell Mini-Me to stop humping the giant laser. He was one of my favorite characters in this movie. Another improvement in this was that more of the movie focused on Dr.Evil who is just always funny. In the first Austin Powers movie, most of it deals with Austin himself, but in this one, Dr.Evil is probably on the screen more often the Austin. His son Scott, also has more time in the movie and he's also really funny. Overall, I think this is still a really funny film, but some parts just didn't work well in the film. I would recommend this even if you haven't seen the first film, but there is a lot of toilet humor which some people might not enjoy.
