Mr. Mistoffelees
'He's quiet, he's small, he is black from his ears to the tip of his tail. He can creep through the tiniest crack; he can walk on the narrowest rail.' Mr. Mistoffelees, more often known as Misto or Mistoff, is a black & white magical tom. During and after his song, he has a very sparkly costume; before, however, his tail is longer, and his unitard's not as sparkly. Misto is also known as Quaxo, and here's an interesting debate subject: Is Quaxo really Mistoffelees? Are they brothers? Or what? Everyone's divided over this, and different productions show it differently, but I think that in the video, Quaxo and Misto are the same tom. Quaxo is his first name. Be that as it may, the name Mistoffelees was created after Mephitsoffelees, the name of the devil. Misto however is rarely (or never) protrayed as a devil; as far as I know, he's always been played as a charming and sweet kitten/young adult. Misto & Victoria seem to have something going on, and I'm a fan of this relationship. Some people believe that Misto & Jemima like each other, but where this idea comes from I don't know. Others say Cassandra & Mistoffelees are together, and I understand this, but am not a huge fan of the idea; Cassandra is his magical assisstant. Misto plays a Pollicle in 'The Awefull Battle of the Pekes and the Pollicles,' the play within a play that the cats preform for Old Deuteronomy. The actor who plays Misto is a usually the best dancer in the cast. He's a dancer, not a singer (though I'm not trying to criticize his voice), and often is pretty small. The actor who preforms Misto also plays one of Macavity's henchrats. Most people (me included) like Jacob Brent best out of the people who have played Mistoffelees. Actors who've played him: Jacob Brent (video, & B'way), Julius Sermonia (Broadway), Campbell McKenzie (London), |
