One of the most famous golf courses in the world, the St Andrews Old Course proudly carries the title of 'The Home of Golf' dating all the way back to the 15th century.
Noted by its massive bunkers — 112 in all — the Old Course originally had 22 holes until 1764, when the Society of St Andrews Golfers (now the Royal and Ancient Golf Club) combined shorter holes, reducing the course to 18, today's golf standard. St Andrews Old Course will play host to the 2000 British Open.
This is a site of pilgrimage. Golfers come from all over the world to play the birthplace of golf. When Columbus set sail for the New World, the Old COurse was well established. The rugged seaside links set the standard for courses the world over.
When golf comes in mind, the second thought often would be: St. Andrews Links Old Course, well known as the birthplace of the game. Allthough this is not the toughest course in Links LS - in fact: it is the easiest, if you play it the common way. One of the reasons might be that it was unfortunately shortened to public lenght of 6566 yards only for the simulation, while the original Championchip lenght is 6950 yards. Though could it be a demanding challenge, if you make some changes in the settings: WINDY/HARD/FAST conditions, no cameras, and PS/CHAMP. What you now expect to see from almost every tee, is nearly the same the real golfer would see: Nothing but plain links. Almost every drive is a blind shot in a fairway, that simply seems not to exist. If you´re lucky enough to find a piece of grass between these notorious pot bunkers, you´ll have a good chance to reach the green in two - Otherwise expect a bogey. The graphics of this classic LinksLS standard course are quite beautiful! A redone version of The Old Course will be released with LS2000!
One of the reasons that MS/Access released this version of the Old Course was, that
the original LS99 version was unfortunately shortened to public lenght of 6566 yards
only for the simulation, which made it to one of the easiest courses in LinksLS.
However, the lenght of the LS2000 Old Course is 6840 yards, while the original
Championchip lenght is still 6950 yards. The graphics of this classic LinksLS
standard course are slightly improved and really beautiful!
The Signature Hole:
Number 17 is a 461-yard par 4, the most difficult par 4 on the course. The drive must
be over the edge of the out-of-bounds wall to the center of the narrow fairway. The
second shot must be to the right half of the green to avoid the road-hole bunker. Too
much club will result in playing from the road.
