Thursday, September 6th, 2000 1:00 am Steve Cherrier has reported that Microsoft today announced plans to bring Bighorn's Canyons course to future Links add-on course packs. Bighorn's Canyons course was the site of last week's Battle of Bighorn, where Sergio Garcia defeated Tiger Woods. This represents the second Bighorn course to be included in the Links franchise, following the addition of the Mountains course in 1994. Located in Palm Desert, CA, Bighorn's Canyons course is designed by renowned course architect, Tom Fazio. The Canyons course measures 7,053 yards and is set among some of the most dramatic desert landscape in California. With meandering streams, majestic waterfalls and rocky canyons as the backdrop, Canyons course is as challenging as it is beautiful. Environmental and elevation changes will challenge even the most experienced PC golfer. The front nine offers golfers vast fairways and demanding topography, while the back nine is located at upper elevations, taking advantage of the natural desert wash and existing canyons. With the Canyons course, PC golfers will be able to play as Sergio Garcia on the course that brought him victory over golf phenom Tiger Woods. Canyons course will be joining the Links franchise in a Links 2001 add-on course pack to be released in the coming months. Links 2001 is the most significant upgrade to the Links series in over a decade, featuring an entirely new rendering engine that delivers unprecedented ball physics and graphics, as well as the Arnold Palmer Course Designer, which allows PC golfers to re-create their home courses with the same tools used by the Links 2001 team. Links 2001 will be available at retail locations throughout North America in late October 2000. |

Friday, September 1st, 2000 6:25 pm I've been away for a while so I'm outta the loop, but here's some stuff that I missed while I was gone: (from Steve Cherrier of arbuthnot communications, inc.): Did you catch Monday night's showdown between Tiger Woods and Links 2001's Sergio Garcia? If you didn't, you missed one of the greatest golf events in recent history! To help us celebrate Sergio's victory over Tiger at the Battle of Bighorn, we're encouraging Links fans everywhere to send a congratulatory e-postcard to Sergio. Also, as the summer draws to a close, so do the Links 2001 developer chats on Zone.com. Tomorrow night (Thursday), Mark Hulka from the Links 2001 team will be in the Zone.com Theater Auditorium to answer questions about the game. How about that ten-foot put on the 18th that gave Sergio the victory?! Links fans are encouraged to send a note to Sergio Garcia about his Battle of Bighorn win via a special email address: mailto:sglinks@microsoft.com. Microsoft has created a themed e-postcard for the occasion and you can access it via the official Links 2001 Web site at http://www.microsoft.com/games/links2001/. Postcards will be accepted until September 5, at which time the messages will be forwarded to Sergio. Look for an official response from Sergio on the Links 2001 site in the near future. Mark Hulka, software design engineer for Links 2001, will close out the Links developer chat series on Zone.com tomorrow night. Mark created The LS Tour back in July of '97 and has been working on it ever since! You're invited to go behind the scenes with Mark and chat with him about how Links 2001 was made, how the physics were developed, the difficulties involved in modeling golf swings and more. Participation is encouraged, so bring your best questions to the Zone.com Theater Auditorium (http://www.zone.com/zzzz/auditorium.asp) from 6pm to 7pm PDT on Thursday, August 31. Hope to see you there! |
