Eugene Becker, the former Assistant Principal Violist of the NY Philharmonic, enjoys an impressive reputation as soloist, chamber musician and teacher. He was violist of the Krasner and Gramercy String Quartets and of Concertium, a chamber music series of varied instrumentation.
He has served on the faculties of Syracuse University, Lehman College, SUNY/Purchase, and the Eastman School of Music. He is currently on the faculties of the Mannes College of Music and the Julliard School. His former pupils now occupy professional positions in symphonies and chamber ensembles throughout the United States and abroad.
Summer music festivals have included the Congress of Strings at the University of Cincinnati, the Estherwood and Bowdoin Festivals, Yong Pyong in South Korea, the Summit Festival, the Killington Music Festival, and the Chamber Music Conference of the East.
A frequent guest artist, Mr. Becker recently appeared as soloist with orchestra and gave a highly acclaimed series of master classes in Seoul, Korea. As part of Lincoln Center's Mozart Bicentennial, he performed as soloist with the orchestra at Alice Tully Hall and as conductor at the Julliard Theater.
He has performed numerous world premieres of solo, chamber and orchestral works written for and dedicated to him. His CD recording of the Sonata for Viola and Piano by Eric Ewazen has recently been released on the Clique Track label.
