Mehmet Aydin was born in Ankara, Turkey in 1981. At 12, he was accepted to The Ankara State Conservatory, he began his first viola lessons with Professor Dr. Koral Calgan in 1993. After a year he continued his lessons with Mrs. Bediz Kocak at the conservatory. During his education in The Ankara State Conservatory he was a member of the Conservatory Orchestra.
In December 1998, Mehmet came to Greenwich, Connecticut, due to his father’s appointment in New York City. He continued his music studies by playing principal viola at the Young Artist Philharmonic, Greenwich High School Orchestra and String Ensemble and also in a string quartet led by Mrs. Asya Meshberg, (a member of the New York Philharmonic.) Meanwhile, he took private lessons from Mrs. Sue Tenca, a current member of the Greenwich Symphony. In May 1999, he auditioned to The Juilliard Pre-College in New York City. In september 1999, Mehmet gave his first public solo recital, performing Max Bruch's "Romanze". (Opus 85)
Mehmet is now the asistant principal violist in the Juilliard Pre-College Orchestra and also he is the principal violist in the Greenwich High School Orchestra and String Ensemble. He is continuing his viola lessons now with Mr. Eugene Becker at Juilliard.
