Faith in Chaos

Ch. 19

"Sorry, please don't scream," he begged.
"Sorry," she smiled.
"You're in my drama course right," he asked walking beside her. She smiled and examined the guy, he was about 6 feet tall maybe 6'1", blondish hair, not overweight, but not really skinny and built with piercing green eyes.
"My name is Patrick," he added causing her to look away.
"I'm Candice, hello."
"I know," he grinned. "So are you dating anyone?"
"No, not right at the moment why," he grinned slyly.
"I dunno I was just checkin', cuz I wouldn't want your football playin' boyfriend to kick my ass--that is if you had one anyway," he flashed her his prefect smile.
"Well, what about you, any girlfriends," she asked laughing.
"Not really, I just started here, I was transferred from California--I play basketball."
"Cool, are you any good," she asked sitting on a nearby bench.
"Yeah why..are you a big basketball star or sumthin'?"
"Kinda," she grinned.
"Well, would you mind goin' with me to a club..tonight?" he asked standing up.
"Sure, I mean that would be cool," she stood up. "Here is my number--call me with times and stuff," she walked away grinning. Maybe life does go on, she thought climbing into her car.

~ Two days later ~

He stepped out of his rental car and climbed up the stairs, he rang the doorbell hoping she was home.
"Hello sir," a man answered the door.
"Is-is Candice home," he stammered.
"Yes, come on in sir." The man stepped aside and showed him into the house.
"I'm Nick," he smiled.
"Oh yes, Mr. Carter I presume. I'm Max, I work here."
"Hello Max," Nick shook his hand.
"Miss Candice is up in the attic, second door on your left, third floor."
"Thanks," Nick started to walk up the large staircase.

"But we are two worlds a part, I can't reach to your heart," she sang as loud as she could. Nick stood in the doorway and laughed at her. His laughter caused her to spin around and drop the box in her arms.
"Nick ohmigod what are you doing here," she ran over to him wrapping her arms around him.
"I was just bored and so I decided to check up on my favorite girl," he chuckled. "So what on earth are you doing any way Trouble?"
"I'm cleaning, wanna help," she asked turning down her radio.
"So, do you like the Backstreet Boys now," he asked following her over to the radio.
"Yes, actually I love Millennium, it's well sang and the lyrics, they are the best-ever," she gushed. "Oh listen to me I sound like a nine year old."
"No, I mean I think it's cool you like us," he sat down looking at some old pictures.
"That was my grandmother and me, when I was seven," she sighed walking over to a full sized mirror.
"Cool," he looked through the rest of the old pictures.

"Oh, Nick look at this," she squealed.
"What?"
"Look at this," she held up a small nightgown. "It was mine when I was little," she smiled holding it up to herself in the mirror.
"It's cute," Nick took it out of her hands. "So, how have you been really?"
"Just hanging out around here, ya now kinda going on with my life," she sighed.
"Great," his gazed landed on the box next to her, "wow!"
"That's my past," she informed him. "It was me before I moved and even after that. I put everything into that box."
"That's amazing," he pulled a black box with different color jewels on it.
"My grandmother gave that to me," she grabbed it out of his hands. "I was sixteen, I had been so sick and then she was getting sick, too, but from old age not like me." Candice started to whisper as tears glistened in her eyes. "She told me to get better, fall in love, and have lots of kids," she chuckled. "I told her to get better, too."
"It's ok I don't have to know," he hugged her as tears rolled down her cheeks.
"She never got better," she whispered as she shook.

"What's in the box," Nick asked taking it from her hand.
"I have no clue. I never opened it, I just threw it into this box, almost five years ago--tomorrow."
"Well, then open it," Nick urged.
"I guess so, I mean who better to open it with than my best friend." She opened the box slowly being extra careful. "It-it's a necklace," she stammered.
"Wait there's more," Nick pulled out a sheet of yellowed paper. "It's a song--called Faith in Chaos."
"Wow," Candice took the paper from his hands reading over the words..
When the world surrounds you
And tears sting your eyes
When you feel yourself loosing all control
Your hopes and dreams are gone
The world spins so fast
You can hardly see
Just have faith in me
Crowds of people push you 'round
You fall to the ground
I'll be there to help you up
Help you fight the crowd
Just have faith in me
Cause when I first saw you
My heart skipped a beat
You wonder if you'll ever find that someone
When that someone stands right before you
We're not a miracle
It's not fate
It's just us
You and I
Maybe not together but surely forever
Just as long as you have faith in me
Faith in me
Faith in Chaos
Just gotta have Faith in Chaos..

She looked up at Nick tears stung her eyes once again as the words sunk in. "Nick." Candice wrapped her arms around his neck.
"What's wrong," Nick asked hugging her.
"The words Nick--this song is for us," she handed him the sheet of paper. Nick read through the words and looked down at her.
"I have to go Candice, I'm so sorry." Nick stood up and walked out of the room. Candice watched as he walked out of her life; she heard the front door slam as the sheet of paper hit the floor.

What am I doing? Nick asked himself driving back to his hotel. Why am I doing this to her? He spun his car around and drove back to her house.

She was sitting out on her porch with the yellow sheet of paper in her hand.
"Candice," he started, "I'm so sorry for storming out like that."
"No, Nick it's ok," she stood up. "Nick I'm so sorry for what I've put you through. I know you don't need this and before I came along you had a great girlfriend and a semi-great life and I just destroyed it. I'm so sorry!"
"God no this isn't your fault stop blaming all of this on yourself..please. I would feel so bad if you blamed yourself for the rest of your life," Nick sat on the top stair.
"Nick, you don't understand, I feel so horrible, I feel as if I shouldn't talk to you like I only make your life more..what's the word?"
"Stop," Nick insisted. "Stop this right now, you shouldn't blame yourself for my life, it's mine! I'm glad I met you..really I am."
"Why," she asked sitting next to him.
"Cause If I hadn't met you maybe I wouldn't be with Mandy anymore, and maybe I would be going insane right about now and maybe I would be off with some hooker-- now remember none of this is to be repeated."
"Oh yeah of course," she bit her lip. "Hey, Nick can I tell you sumthin?"
"Sure shoot," he patted her back.

"Well, you know my BSB site, well I'm kinda doing a story about you and I and well see it's Fan fiction..well at least in my fan fiction section and it is called Faith in Chaos and well."
"Well, what," Nick demanded.
"Well, you see it has everything we've been through but not just us..your family my family and Backstreet, I'm so sorry, but I had to. I had to tell my story!"
"Shh," he cooed. "That's fine, I mean just as long as you don't tell too much, I mean I think it's quite silly but as long as everyone thinks it's made up, I'm cool."
"Thanks, cause I've had it up a while."
"Haha, any good reviews," Nick asked laughing.
"Actually," Candice grinned.
"What," Nick asked as she stared at the door.
"I have no clue, I was waiting for someone to burst in the door and not let me finish cause I really don't have any thing to say."
"Haha," Nick laughed.

"No, I have gotten reviews but they are for my writing and not the story, haha, no I mean sorry!"
"You're truly mean," Nick stood up.
"I know," Candice stood up as well.
"I guess I should get going I mean we're going to start recording soon and I haven't spent any time at home at all," Nick sighed. "I'll call you sometime."
"I'd like that," Candice grinned hugging him for one last time.
"I figured you would," Nick pulled away and kissed her on the cheek.
"Bye Nick."

~ A month later in Missouri ~

"Ohmigod, that picture is awesome," her friend screamed.
"No, this one is better," another insisted; Emma smiled.
"You guys wanna see something," she asked grinning from ear to ear.
"Yea," all five girls screamed standing up; the door flew open.
"Hey guys would you mind quieting down a bit," Candice smiled. "What are ya'll doing?"
"It's my BSB fan club Cuz," Emma grinned shoving the box back under her bed.
"Wow. I'm a fan, too, you know."
"Aren't you a little too old to be a Backstreet Boys fan," a girl asked smiling.
"Well, maybe," Candice smiled sitting on the bed. "But you know, they have great music."
A girl rolled her eyes, "we know, we know."
"Ok I'll leave but be good and not so loud please I'm on the phone!"
"Ok, ok," Emma waved her off. "Guys you have gotta see this," Emma whispered pulled the shoebox back out from under her bed.
"What is it," her friend asked.
"It's Nick Carter's boxers," Emma whispered; all five girls screamed.

~ In Candice's room ~

"Yeah," Candice moaned grabbing the phone.
"What was that sound," he asked folding up his socks.
"Emma and her friends," Candice turned off the radio.
"Hey hold on," he said standing up. "Hey Manda, do you know where my lucky boxers are," Nick screamed holding the phone away.
"No," Candice heard Amanda scream back.
"Dammit," Nick put the phone back up to his ear.
"What was that all about," Candice asked.
"My boxers, my lucky boxers are gone," Nick declared.
"Nick I'm so sorry," Candice laughed.
"Hey, this is serious, did you take them?"

"Why would I want your boxers?"
"I dunno why would anyone want my boxers! I can't travel without them!"
"Nick calm down," Mandy yelled in the background.
"Nick I'm gonna let you go k? Since you have a major personal problem there and I'll see you in June," Candice listened to Nick throw things around and then mumble ok. "And tell Mandy I'll see her in June," Candice finished.
"Hey," Mandy grabbed the phone.
"Mand sup girl?"
"Nothin' Nick is freaking here, I'll see you soon!"
"Bye girl," Candice smiled.
"Bye," Mandy hung the phone and helped Nick look for his boxers. Candice hung the phone just as the doorbell started to ring.
