Chapter 31
"How far along," he asked pulling away from her.
"Four months," she cried.
"So, it-it's Pat's?"
"Of course, who's else would it be, Jamie?"
"Hey don't call me that, and stop pushing these feelings down. I know you are feeling a lot and you're not showing it, now tell me everything or I'll be forced to tickle it out of you," he grinned devilishly.
"Jamie, the baby is fine. I was shocked," she wiped her eyes. "I hadn't been taking care of myself, but my doctor said the baby was doing fine."
"You're gonna be a great mother, I know it." James hugged her again; the tears finally stopped.
"I can't Jamie, I have no job, no man in my life and I can't be a mother!"
"You have me," he whispered pushing his lips against hers gently. She pushed him away.
"Jamie, I'm washed up, and do you really think I want to get into a relationship after three heartbreaks," James hugged her again.
"We'll get through this trust me," he stood up and kissed her forehead. "G'night Candi," he started to walk away but she grabbed his arm.
"Can you just hold me, just for tonight..please," she looked up at him with puppy dog eyes.
"You know I'm falling in love with you and if you make me hold you..I'm warning you, I will never let you go," he climbed into her bed.
"I'll have to take my chances," she smiled pulling the covers around him and herself as he wrapped his arms around her waist.
"So are you gonna tell Nick bout this," he asked resting his head in the crook of her neck.
"Why? He has his own life and plus he wouldn't care anyway," he kissed her cheek and sat up.
"He cares...he's your friend and I know that he would love to know."
"I might tell Howie, and he can tell Nick..but I really don't feel like talking to him anytime soon."
"That's stupid," James laid back down next to her and held her once again.
"Let's just worry bout my baby and our life's alright?"
"Fine."
"Hello," she asked out of breath.
"You busy," he asked not wanting to interrupt anything.
"Oh no Howie I'm--I was just cleaning but I don't wanna any more," she laughed.
"Oh, so how are things?"
"Did you have a reason for calling me Howie," she asked smiling. "I mean you've never called me before..I didn't even know you had my number."
"Well, I was just wondering what you were up to lately."
"Oh well you actually had time to call me," she teased.
"You remember the day you stopped by my house, well I took out my planner and I wrote down a date to call you, and today is August 2 right?"
"Yeah," Candice almost fall off her sofa from laughing so hard. "Did you really write that in there Howie?"
"Yup right here I'll read it to ya, wake up, brush teeth, eat, call Candice," Howie laughed.
"Dear! I wanna see the day I have to write down when to wake up and brush my teeth," Candice laughed, tears fell down her face from laughing so hard.
"Ok well I'm glad you're doin' good," Howie tried to change the subject.
"Oh yeah and I'm gonna tell you some of my latest news, I'm four months pregnant!"
"Wow that's great," Howie choked out, he didn't know what to say. "Congrats."
"Thanks and if it's a girl I'm gonna name her, I dunno, but if it's a boy I'm gonna name him Howard after my favorite guy to talk to," she laughed.
"Haha," Howie laughed. He wasn't sure what to think about this. "You're ok with this whole thing?"
"Oh yes, I think it'll be great," she lied. "No, you know what Howie, I'm so scared right now..I can't lie to you. I don't want a baby, but it's Pat's and it's the only thing left of him I have and I know I can't possibly give it away or anything horrible like that!"
"Oh wow, that's a big spot to be in," Howie whispered.
"Yeah but don't worry bout me I'm doin' fine, my friend James it taking good care of me and lil Howard or I dunno," she tried to laugh.
"That's great," Howie smiled. "Hey well I've gotta go, you know how I am always busy, now you gotta call me soon or I'm gonna have to hurt you," he teased.
"Bye," she hung up.
"Who was that," James asked walking in with arms full of grocery bags.
"Oh Howie," Candice shrugged.
"Really, that's great," he said as he tried to juggle the four bags in his arms.
"Need some help," Candice laughed as she watched him.
"Um..yeah," he smiled sheepishly.
"Oh the phone," Candice cried dropping the bag in her arms as she dived for the phone. "Hello?"
"Um..hey," dead silence.
"So," Candice mumbled.
"Yeah," he whispered. "How are things?"
"Fine, you?"
"Good, so what have you been up to lately, anything new?"
"Howie told you, didn't he?"
"Um yeah," Nick smiled the dead silence again.
"So," Candice whispered trying to break the silence.
"Yeah..how are things," Nick asked as he got up and started to walk around his room.
"Good, how are things with you?"
"Fine. I already asked that haven't I," Nick chuckled.
"Yeah," Candice laughed lightly.
"So have you thought of any names for your baby," Nick blurted out.
"Um, I think so, but can I have your opinion on them?"
Nick nodded his head, "yeah, sure."
"Ok for a boy I was thinking Howard but then I decided naw. So I stayed up last night and I thought of a great name, I was thinking, now be honest. I was thinking about Davis Patrick for a boy and for a girl Cally Gene."
"Those are great names," Nick smiled.
"Hey Nick can I let you go I'll call you later this week or something."
"Alright cya," she hung up and plopped down on her sofa. She sighed as she turned on the TV. She could sum up the past week in one word; hell.
"Pregnant, think you're pregnant," the commercial rang in her ears.
"No, I know I am," she flipped off the TV and made her way to the kitchen.
"I'm back," James called walking in the door with more bags of food.
"Hey Jamie," she hugged him lightly. "I think I'm gonna go for a walk," she started out the door.
"You feelin' alright?"
"I'm fine, cya in a little bit!"
She walked down the long driveway and slowly made her way onto the street when she noticed two young girls walking toward her. "Don't jump to any conclusion," Candice mumbled under her breath as she continued to walk.
"Excuse me," a voice said from behind her. Candice stopped dead in her tracks and turned around slowly. She stood face to face with two young girls, the same ones from before. "Are you the owner of End of the rainbow?" The blonde girl asked, her emreld eyes lit up.
"Are you Candi?"
Ohmigod! Candice stood in shock. This is bad, I have fans! They know where I live, they know my car..they know me!!
