Faith in Chaos

Ch.9

"Hello Miss," the doctor flipped through his papers, "Thompson." She studied the doctor, he was tall, about 6 foot, with dark brown hair and piercing green eyes, and he was around 40 years old, she guessed.
"Hello Doctor Davidson," she shook his hand.
"Call me Peter," he flipped through the papers on his clipboard. "Well, Miss Thompson it seems you have a very caring friend."
"Call me Candice," she interrupted.
"OK, Candice, it seems you have a very caring friend," he scratched his head, "Mr. Carter calling me may save your life, but only if you want me too."
"Oh yes, I do."
"Well, as I continue to look at your file, this isn't the first time we have dealt with this," he looked up. "Am I right?"
"Yes--yes you are," she looked down at her hands and played with her thumbs.
"This is a very serious matter," she looked up at him with tears in her eyes.

"Man where is she?" Nick whispered throwing the magazine down on the table. "God this sucks," he almost yelled.
"Sir. Please," the nurse screeched slamming the window shut again.
"Sorry," he whispered pacing.

"I think we should start out with some therapy, and a new diet. I'll print that out for you and you shall want to talk to Debbie, she's the nurse, she'll tell you about your group meetings three times a week." She nodded, "and also I'm gonna transfer you to Dr. Martin in is a specialist with Eating disorders and he's much better than I am, not that I'm bad or anything. Now does that sound like a plan or what," the doctor asked.
"Yeah, it does."
"Well, see you in three days Candice," he looked down at his paper work.
"Bye doctor," she mumbled.
"See you Miss Thompson."
"Jerk," she shut his door walking out into a long narrow hallway, she finally found the door and opened it slightly, and she saw Nick pacing in the empty room.
"You ok," she asked.
"Are you ok?" His eyes lit up as he ran to hug her.
"I'll tell you later." She walked to the small window and knocked on it, they planned all of her meetings and her long-term plan. Nick and her walked to his car hand in hand. "Wanna drive?"
"Not really, you can drive."
"Ok," Candice climbed into the driver's seat.
"Is this all you eat?" Nick asked looking at her new diet plan.
"I think it's a lot," she turned on the radio.
"Yeah," Nick mumbled shoving the paper in her bag.
"So what are we doing tonight?" Candice asked pulling into Nick's driveway, there was a car sitting in his spot; Mandy's car.
"I'm gonna go check on my cat," Candice said climbing out of his car and heading to her house, she knew he had to talk to Mandy alone.

Nick sighed as he opened his door; she was sitting on the sofa with two pugs sitting next to her and one on her lap.
"Nicky," she jumped up dropping the pug on the floor.
"What Mandy?"
"I missed you Nick," she hugged him.
"No, Mandy I'm seeing someone new," he pushed her away.
"Nicky, what? It's that one girl isn't it! The one that is using you!" Mandy declared.
"Mandy it's not like that at all." She walked toward him and pressed her lips against his; he pushed her away.
"That's mean Nick," she crossed her arms over her chest.
"I really like her Mand, can I just call you later?"
"Yeah I get it," she stepped closer to him. "I'll be waiting by your phone." She kissed him again this time he didn't push her away, he just let her kiss him. She had that power over him, she would give him those puppy dog eyes and he lost it. He had dated other girls but Mandy always got in the way, always came back into his life. He knew he could do nothing to stop her so he just gave into her power, but this time it was different, he really liked Candice and he knew what he had to do.

~ The Next Day ~

"So, we'll watch a movie?"
"Yeah," Nick whispered knowing what he would have to do. Poor girl he thought throwing his phone on his bed. How? how? How? His head repeated.
"Hey I'm back," he heard Candice call from the bottom of the stairway. Ok so before or after, Nick wondered gazing down at her, so much more than I could ask for, Nick thought walking down the stairs.
"Hurry up Bubble Butt," she called taping her foot.
"I'm coming gosh," Nick said throwing his thoughts aside. "So what movie did you bring?"
"Well, I didn't know which movie to bring so I grabbed Big Daddy 'cause I love this movie."
"Oh I haven't seen that one yet," Nick grabbed the video and ran to the TV.
"Hey wait for me," she called running after him, when she reached the room he was laying on the couch pretending to sleep. "Awww did all that running make Nicky sweepy?" She rolled her eyes; he still 'slept' so she jumped on him.
"Ouch," he groaned. "God girly that hurt." He pushed her down to the floor, "Now you must pay, mahaha."
"Oh I'm so scared of you Bubble Booty!"
"How did I get that name anyway?"
"Well," she sat up, "look at your ass." She laughed.
"Not funny," he sat next to her on the floor. "At least I have a butt."
"So if I had one I wouldn't want it to be that big," she laughed harder falling on Nick's lap.
"That hurts me," he pouted.
"I'm sorry...Nick...I ...just..find..it--it..so funny," she managed to choke out through her laughter.
"You're mean," Nick stood up.
"Aww poor Nick," she stopped laughing and jumped on his back. "So how about that movie?"
"Ok, I'll get the popcorn and soda."
"K, I'll start the movie." Nick walked into the kitchen, How am I gonna do this? He asked himself grabbing some popcorn and throwing it into the microwave. She is so funny and sweet but..he grabbed two sodas and some M&M's for the popcorn. I really like her, I told her I loved her but do I, no I can't I've only known her what five or six months, I've known Mandah for three years. Mandy? Oh Mand why did you do this to me? Candice walked in interrupting his thoughts

"Yo, Nick your popcorn is done."
"Oh yeah," Nick snapped out of his daze.
"What's wrong? You've been acting weird all night..after you talked to Mandy," Candice said starring hard at his blank face. "What happened?" She asked putting her arm around his waist.
"Well," he stepped away. "Nothing happened, she was just asking for her stuff back," he lied.
"So what's wrong then?"
"Well, there is something I wanna talk bout," he sat on the table.
"Well, then talk. Please?"
"See, I've been thinking..maybe we should--put our relationship on hold, while you're getting better and we can still be best friends," he spat it out quickly hoping not to ever have to repeat those words to anyone ever again. She sat there silent staring down at the table, playing with the place mat. He hoped she would take it well, but she just sat there not moving or speaking just starring. He wanted her to reply, any reply, he wanted so much to take all of his words back and just hold her in his arms but he knew it was too late.

"Nick?" she whispered. Finally Nick thought with joy, she lifted her face so her eyes could meet with his. He stared hard at her eyes, so dark, so trusting and now so hurt, they were filling with tears. "Yes?" He choked out.
"I don't know," she started to cry. "I just don't know."
Nick got up and hugged her trying to comfort her but it didn't work. "It's ok," he whispered.
"No, it's not Nick, it'll never be ok," she ran out of his house crying.
