The book is divided into two parts. The first section contains hundreds of simple ideas and activities developed around 23 of the finest books ever written for young children. You'll find delightful activities built around such wonderful classics as Jesse Bear, What Will You Wear?, The Runaway Bunny, The Carrot Seed, Corduroy, Caps for Sale, The ABC Bunny, The Snowy Day, Katy-No-Pocket and Blueberries for Sal. Each unit provides creative ideas and enjoyable activities designed to cultivate intimacy with your child while building vital learning-readiness skills.
Part two of Before Five in a Row is a
rich resource, filled with specific ideas designed to help you prepare
children for learning through simple, everyday activities. You'll find
ideas for bathtime, bedtime, in the kitchen, at the grocery store and much
more; information and inspiration to help you maximize these precious years
and prepare your children for real learning!
In addition to B4FIAR, we use assorted workbooks which we've purchased at Wal*Mart, BJ's Wholesale Club and Sam's Club. We also subscribe to Brighter Vision Learning Adventures. A package is sent to us once a month containing a workbook, a hard cover book, stickers, a craft or theme type activity, a musical cassette tape, a poster and a parents guide. (Go to their web site and get your first shipment FREE by signing up ~ no obligation.) Samuel is learning Spanish with an Usborne video called First Fun With Spanish. We also do a craft activity every day based on the story we are reading with B4FIAR.
Samuel attends story time at our local library and Kindermusik classes once a week. We live within a half hours drive of the Mystic Aquarium, the Mystic Seaport, the Children's Museum of Southeastern Connecticut, the Mashantucket Pequot Museum & Research Center, the USS Nautilus Submarine Museum, the Science Center of Eastern Connecticut and the Roger Williams Park Zoo, all of which we frequent often.
