The Flight and Arrival

The flight over to Scotland was an experience that the scouts will not soon forget. For some of the scouts it was their first exposure to a 747/400 and a totally full plane. For others, it was the first time that had individualized tv's with a selection of 6 movies, various tv programs, music, and of course video games. They did seem to adjust quite well. The food selection seemed to please them also. They had for "starter" roasted corn and tomato salsa and chips, for a "main course" a choice of sauteed chicken breast, fisherman's pie, or baked vegetable cannelloni; each selection accompanied with vegetables etc., and finally "dessert" summer fruit and mousse accompanied by cheese (brie) and biscuits. Later we were served a breakfast of orange juice, fresh fruit salad, rolls or buns, and tea or coffee. Throughout the flight the boys discovered "virgin cola."

Arrival at Heathrow was an experience also since our linked flight was at another terminal. We had to transfer from terminal 3 to terminal 1. This was achieved via a bus link. We did have a few hours to kill before our British Midlands flight to Edinburgh, this was done by exploring the gift and food court or the terminal. Yes, the boys did eat again and at a Burger King. This was their first test at spending pounds.

The flight over was quick and yes we were served food and drinks again. The boys picked either a ham and cheese sandwich, a prawn sandwich, or a vegetable and cheese sandwich. So it can be said the unit did manage to eat and play its way over to Scotland successfully.

The pickup by home stay parents and scouts at Glenrothes went smoothly and all boys appeared happy at the opportunity to finally be heading someplace with a bed. Tomorrow we will be exploring St. Andrews, more later.
