Comments from the last poll, which asked whether or not Darrell Waltrip should drive again if he is offered a ride in the second half of 2001:
1. I respect Darrell Waltrip but for some reason he
just can't stay that great driver that he was. I think it's best if he goes and retires and maybe still be a part of NASCAR just not as a racer. _Ryan B.
2. Well Ryan B. did you see DW at Indy he was 11th but if he had a late caution he just might have won that race so i think he should run Indy for the next 5 years or until he wins it and everyone knows he could do it with a little luck and i can't wait until Daytona watch out for Michael Waltrip. Charlie C. Owensboro,KY the home town of DW,michael, jeremy Mayfield and all of the Green boys
3. What about the rumor that in 2nd half of 2001 that FOX Sports has a #39 Chevy with Larry McReynolds as Owner/ Jeff Hammond as Crew Chief / & DW as driver ?? I heard that Rupert Murdoch wants FOX to maintian a presence in NASCAR even when NBC is doing the 2nd half of season. I HOPE it is true !!! JazzECat@bellsouth.net
4. Darrell can still race with the best of them, but he has to have the equipment, he proved that with the Pennzoil car 2 years ago. He's had nothing but go-carts to drive since '97. Put him in Little E's car and he'll run near the front every week. He's got all the experience in the world. It's a shame that once your popularity dwindles and you stop selling T-shirts, you can't get the equipment to remain competitive. 84 wins and 3 championships deserves more respect...John in N.C.
5. Well, I think Darrell is done but just maybe he has some stuff left in him. Personally, I don't think he will be good even if he gets a deal racing in the #39 car. There are just too many good, young drivers out there and Darrell Waltrip is old and nobody wants to make a 1-year deal with an old guy, no offense. I greatly respect Darrell but I think he belongs in the broadcasting booth. Watch out for Rusty Wallace this year. -Ryan B.
6. not unless the ride is a top notch ride -Anonymous
