Quince Seedlings
These are some of the one-year old quince seedling trees that I planted in Spring of 2004 from the many seeds that I found sprouting as I was making quince jam that year

Quince seedlings in 2004. They had thin stems and large leaves, almost as large as the leaves of the full-grown bushes.
Quince seedlings in 2005. The stems  have become woody, and the leaves are smaller and proportionate to the size of the young tree.

The seeds are from the fruit of various Chaenomeles japonica (Japanese flowering quince) bushes I found growing around nearby towns.

As they started growing tall, I began bending some of the stems around themselves.
