Caracal

Caracal

The Caracal lives in dry areas, scrubland, woodland, hilly areas, deserts and the plains of Africa, the Middle East and southwest and central Asia.

The Caracal's appearance looks similar to the Lynx.

They are 16-18 inches (40-45cm) high at the shoulder. Their ears are pointed with long black tufts of fur on the tip. They have a strong, sleek body, short tail and long legs. Their reddish-brown fur is short.

Caracals can go a long time without water like other desert animals. They prey chiefly on birds but eat small mammals too. They are excellent jumpers.

The gestation period of a female caracal is about 70 days. An average litter consists of 1 to 4 young.
