The production, distribution and availability of food, and freedom from
hunger are among the most important needs for Sustainability in our
society. Part of the answer to these
needs is the ability to grow at least a portion of our food locally.
Many of us take for granted that food will be available when we need
it. But where does our daily food come from ? Is the process
by which it gets to us sustainable ? What can be done in an urban area to grow
part of our own food ? What forms does Urban Agriculture take ? What is meant
by Community Supported Agriculture ? What is a Sustainable Food System
? What is the role of Urban Farms,
These are some of the questions
that will be discussed in the presentation and discussion.
This afternoon’s activity will begin with an illustrated presentation by
Laura Brown, which will include a discussion of some of the projects of the
Hartford Food System and other organizations in this area. This will be followed by a visit to a
Youth-Operated Urban Farm project on the Knox Parks Foundation site.
There
will be a discussion period;
you are invited to bring your questions and ideas.
