Q: What does FAQ stand
for?
A: Frequently asked questions
Q: What is Qumran?
A: Qumran is an ancient city near the Dead Sea, close to Jerusalem,
Israel. It is part of one of the greatest archaeological digs in
history, uncovering a whole lotta bunch of ancient scrolls in a series of caves
overlooking the city.
Q: Why is it named Gateway to
Qumran? I thought it takes place in modern day?
A: You'll see.... but for the most part, it will take place in modern
day St. Louis, Missouri. Suffice it to say, the game will have parts
involving time/space travel.
Q: Is GTQ (Gateway to Qumran)
going to be a MMORPG
(massively multiplayer online role-playing game) like Everquest?
A: No, it will be an old school single
player experience.
Q: Will there be any
multiplayer?
A: We plan on having multiplayer support, however at the moment we do
not plan on having the multiplayer related to the single player role-playing
game. Instead it will consist of deathmatches, team objective games,
Capture-the-Flag, and other FPS (First person shooter) standards, as you would
expect to see in Half-Life, or a Quake game.
Q: What will the camera be
like?
A: It can be changed from 1st to 3rd person view, with a variety
of options such as zoom in/out, pan, etc.
Q: How much can you
customize the character's appearance?
A: At the moment we are planning on having several different
meshes and several different textures for each mesh. Also there will be
support to have custom meshes and skins - in other words, the character will
look how ever you would like him to.
Q: What else about the
character can you choose?
A: There will be a system for character creation in which the
player distributes points among his base attributes (Strength, Intelligence,
etc) and then his skills (computer hacking, rifles, pick pockets, etc)
also there will be special advantages and disadvantages (infected with a
disease, or lightning fast reflexes, for example)
Q: Can the character get
better as the game progresses or does he stay the same?
A: There will be experience charts, as you level up you receive
more points to distribute among all your attributes, skills, and abilities.
(obviously some things will cost more than others)
Q: How will combat work?
A: Combat will have two ways of working, you will be able to
decide which one you want.
1) Shooter style - the aiming will be controlled by the mouse or
keyboard, and modified for your skill in that weapon (for example, a really
bad sniper trying to shoot a rifle will take longer to steady the gun, and the
cursor will drift erratically around the screen, whereas a master sniper will
instantly have a steady crosshair. This is similar to Deus-Ex or
Counter-Strike
2) RPG style - the computer factors in accuracy for you based on
your skill, you simply point the mouse at someone and click attack. This is
similar to Fallout or Final Fantasy.
Q: Will it be turn-based
or real-time?
A: Real-time with a pause function.
Q: What else can be
configured or modified?
A: Nearly everything can be modified, from replacing the in-game
weapons with custom versions, to sounds, to music, to simple textures.
Nothing will be write-protected, we realize the vast opportunities to cheat,
but for customization, that's a sacrifice we are willing to make.
Q: I've got a really cool
idea for a game, do you want to hear it?
A: Absolutely! Toad the Paladin Software is a company by
gamers and for gamers. Please post any ideas on our forums
