RESOLUTION NO. 2004-04 (APR)
DEDICATING UNITED STATES HIGHWAY 64 FROM BLOOMFIELD
TO TIERRA AMARILLA AS THE "PFC JOSE F. VALDEZ
MEMORIAL HIGHWAY"
WHEREAS, PFC Jose F. Valdez was born January 30,
1925, in Gobernador, New Mexico, to Venseslau and
Julianita Valdez; and
WHEREAS, PFC Jose F. Valdez entered the United States
Army during World War II from San Juan County in
January 1943; and
WHEREAS, PFC Jose F. Valdez gave his life for his
comrades and his country in Rosenkrantz, France
on February 17, 1945; and
WHEREAS, PFC Jose F. Valdez was awarded the
Congressional Medal of Honor, our nation’s highest
award for valor and bravery in combat, on February 8, 1946; and
WHEREAS, PFC Jose F. Valdez is a person of historical
significance and national esteem.
NOW, THEREFORE, IT IS RESOLVED by the New Mexico
State Transportation Commission that United States
highway 64 from US highway 550 in Bloomfield to
US highway 84 in Tierra Amarilla shall hereafter
be known as the “PFC Jose F. Valdez Memorial Highway”.

TRANSPORTATION COMMISSION ON APRIL 15, 2004.
