Dorothy L. Martin

(December 7, 1920 - December 7, 2007)

 
Dorothy Louise Martin, a lifelong Cushing resident, passed away on Friday, December 7, 2007 (her 87th birthday) in Edmond, OK. Funeral services were entrusted to the Palmer Marler Funeral Home and were held at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 11, 2007 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Cushing with interment following in the Lutheran Cemetery on Kings Highway.

 The daughter of the late Henry Carl Kosted and Emilie (Zellmer) Kosted, Dorothy was born on December 7, 1920 in Cushing. She was reared and educated in the Cushing area graduating from Cushing High School with the class of 1939. 

Dorothy was united in marriage to Lawrence Martin on January 21, 1940 and to this union five children, Jim, Judy, Tom, Hank, and Sally (CHS Class of 1973)were born. Dorothy was married and confirmed in the Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer in Cushing and later in life had begun attending the Immanuel Lutheran Church.

 She had worked in the Cafeteria at the Cushing Regional Hospital and eventually as a nurse’s assistant doing home health care. She enjoyed gardening; sewing; quilting; and having family get togethers. Dorothy also had traveled to Minnesota and Michigan during the years her husband worked for Lakehead Pipeline. 

She is survived by two sons, Jim Martin and his wife Faye of Sycamore, Ohio and Tom Martin and his wife Judi of Scottsdale, AZ; two daughters, Judy Sims and her husband John of Cushing and Sally Ewen and her husband Raymond of Cushing; nine grandchildren, Anthony Martin, Michael Martin, Joseph Martin, David Sims, Derek Sims, Lane Martin, Laurie Counterman, Travis Ewen, and Jennifer Ewen; five great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband Lawrence; one son, Henry “Hank” Martin; one brother, Marvin Kosted; and two sisters, Evelyn Jafek and Mildred “Billie” Deahl.
