Mildred Stephenson Love Nowland, 92, passed away Tuesday November 14, 2006, at Unlimited Care Inc. residence Mi Casa, Tulsa, Oklahoma, where she had resided for 9 months. Mildred was born July 18, 1914 in the Dalles, Ore to David Pleasant and Maria Zoe Stephenson. Shortly after her birth the family moved to Ponca City, Oklahoma where she and her sisters were raised. Mildred graduated from Ponca City High School in 1932 with honors. Shortly thereafter she married Oliver Stewart Love and they moved to Cushing where Stewart was employed by Deep Rock Oil Refinery. They raised one son in Cushing where Mildred was a homemaker and active in the community and a long time member of The First Christian, Disciples Of Christ Church. She was a bookkeeper at Peters Department Store in Cushing for many years. She was preceded in death both parents, by her husband of 33 years, Oliver Stewart Love, Sisters, Mary Beck, Katherine Johnston and Stella Pickett. In 1970 Mildred married Russell H. Nowland and had many more happy years until his death in 1990. She moved to Tulsa in 2004 due to failing health and remained there until her death. She is survived by her son David Stewart Love, (Class of 1953) (his wife June), Stepsons Melvin D. Nowland (Vera, deceased) of Oklahoma City, Hollis G. Nowland (Louise) of Affton, Mo., her much loved former Daughter-In-Law Paula Hargraves Johnson, nine grandchildren, Lauren Love (Emma), Dacia Bird (Clay), Matthew Tucker (Julie), Michael Tucker (Mallory), Barbara Calkin (Paul), Russell Nowland (Diana) and nine great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren and one niece Mary Jo Ferguson Holeman, Wichita, KS. (Class of 1952) A Memorial Service will be held at the First Christian Church in Cushing at 11:00 on Monday, November 20, 2006. A private interment will be held at a later date. Out blended family will always remember Mildred as a devout Christian who lover her home, family and dear friends devotedly. The family would like to express out gratitude to those who cared for Mildred at the Ambassadors Courtyards, Especially Veronica and Pirjo and to Kelly and Jessie at Unlimited Care Inc. A special thanks to Green Country Hospice. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions be made to The First Christian Church Disciples Of Christ, Cushing, OK.
