To make sure the humor would be absurd, we spent time researching all the absurd places we could think of gathering material - like supermarkets, laundromats, the state senate building, meetings of anti-smut crusaders, and town libraries. To make sure the comedy was black, we wrote at night. To make sure the adventures were wild, we had a real monkey and an untamed lion read the manuscript-in-progress and comment on it. To make sure every chapter contained suspense, we wrote the entire book from a ledge on the fifteenth floor at a hotel - at a desk with three legs. And to make certain there was a great deal of sex (our favorite subject) we arranged to have lust-crazed sex fiends rub us down with honey and oil every morning....." Published in 1973.
