The Husband-Review-06/18/06

The Husband starts out as all Koontz books do, a unreal situation. This situation is a kidnapping. But the kidnapping is, not of a rich person but the wife of a lowly gardener, Mitch Rafferty. And as usual something happens that sets the tone for the whole novel. A person is shot across the street from Mitch in broad daylight and then in a classic Koontzien twist, the man is someone that Mitch knows. That lets Mitch know that the men who have taken his wife are serious. They also make it so if he does not comply with their wishes he will be framed for his wife's murder. Filled with even more twists the book does come to a quite rewarding ending. Koontz has written maybe his most poignant novel, yet. My only complaint is that his writing has become even more laiden with metaphors and discription. Rating: *****
