Faedawn Elves

Faedawn elves believe that independence and freedom for the individual are more important than the rigid structures of civilization, so they tend to settle and live in small cities rather than vast metropolises. These cities accept the loose authority of a noble, who in turn owes allegiance to an elven monarch (who rules over his or her subjects directly).
The Faedawn elves live in harmony with nature, building structures that blend into the surrounding area, or are in the branches of trees away from prying eyes. They frequently have animal guardians such as giant eagles watching their homes. Elf society is egalitarian, and males and females may be found in almost any role.

Their long life span gives elves a patient perspective and allows them to take pleasure in the enduring beauty of the natural world. They rarely see the point in short term gains and instead learn things that will provide joy for years to come, such as stories, music, art, and dance. Treasures such as elven music and crafts disguise the fact that the elves of Faedawn are dedicated warriors determined to check the spread of evil in the world.

Faedawn Elf Traits:

These traits are to replace the high elf traits as listed on page 16 of the Player’s Handbook.

+2 Dexterity, –2 Constitution: Faedawn Elves are graceful but frail. Their grace makes her naturally better at stealth and archery.

Size Medium:

As Medium creatures, elves have no special bonuses or penalties due to their size.

Speed:

Base land speed is 30 feet.

Immunities:

Immunity to magic sleep effects, and a +2 racial saving throw bonus against enchantment spells or effects.

Low-light Vision:

An elf can see twice as far as a human in starlight, moonlight, torchlight, and similar conditions of poor illumination. She retains the ability to distinguish color and detail under these conditions.

Feats:

Faedawn Elves receive the Martial Weapon Proficiency feats for the longbow (including composite longbow), and shortbow (including composite shortbow) as bonus feats. Faedawn Elves esteem the art of archery, so all Faedawn elves are familiar with these weapons. Also, a Faedawn elf may select 1 cultural trait from the list given above for the Faedawn Elves for free.

Skills:

+2 racial bonus on Listen, Search, and Spot checks. An elf who merely passes within 5 feet of a secret or concealed door is entitled to a Search check to notice it as if she were actively looking for it. An elf’s senses are so keen that she practically has a sixth sense about hidden portals.

Native Language:

Quenya (High Elven)

Bonus Language:

Aldarian (Common)

Other Languages:

Draconic, Gnoll, Goblin, Orc, and Sylvan.
Faedawn Elves commonly know the languages of their enemies and of their friends, as well as Draconic, the language commonly found in ancient tomes of secret knowledge.

Favored Class: Ranger

A multi-class elf’s ranger class does not count when determining whether she takes an experience point penalty for multi-classing (see XP for Multi-class Characters, page 60).
The arcane also comes naturally to elves and ranger/sorcerers are especially common among them.
