Ogres of Talous-Zek

Ogres are the smaller cousins of giants thought to have emerged during the Age of Fire. The ogres claim to be the offspring of a divine union between the god Annam All-Father and a earth giant queen. Their full-giant cousins on the other hand claim that they are the bastard sons of a union between Othea, the adulterous wife of Annam, and a mortal. In any case, the ogres came to be and after centuries among the giants of Ultima-Thule they rebelled and were led by the god Talous-Zek to their new home further south in the lands that are now named after their new patron war deity.

Physical Description:

Ogres resemble very large, somewhat stocky, yet handsome humans who stand between 8 and 10 feet tall and weight between 600 and 800 pounds. Their eye color ranges from light gray to varying shades of blue, with hair color that is usually light in color; from bright white, to a dull rusty blond. Ogres usually wear their hair long and braided, with some preferring beards, while other prefer to go clean shaven. Ogres tend to adopt the same general appearance as whomever they happen to be traveling with at the time, as the heart of an ogre is fickle and can be easily swayed by his peers.

Ogre Traits:

+8 Strength, +4 Constitution, -2 Dexterity, -2 Wisdom, -2 Charisma: Their utter devotion to Talous-Zek, a brutal war god, as well as the great size of an ogre is also what gives them their great strength. Ogres are also very hearty and benefit from an increased constitution as well. The great strength of the ogre also has its drawbacks however, as it makes them more clumsy in battle. Most ogres are also followers rather than leaders; it’s a rare few exceptional ogres that are actually free-thinking enough to become leaders. This blind follower mentality penalizes both the ogres wisdom and charisma.

General:

All ogres are trained as warriors from birth; as such Ogres begin play with 2 racial levels in ogre as their base class. This gives them 1d8+8 base hit points, a +1 base attack bonus, and a +3 bonus to Fortitude saves.

Large Size:

As Large creatures, ogres receive a -1 penalty to attacks and AC, as well as a -4 penalty to Hide checks, but also receive a +4 bonus to Grapple checks. Lifting, carrying and dragging capacity is double that of a medium creature.

Space/Reach:

10 feet/10 feet.

Low-light Vision:

An ogre can see twice as far as a human in starlight, moonlight, torchlight, and similar conditions of poor illumination. He retains the ability to distinguish color and detail under these conditions.

Feats:

The mind of an ogre is as hard as unfeeling as their souls, as such all ogres receive the Iron Will feat for free. Also, ogres receive 2 feats from their levels in ogre which may be chosen from any feat listed as being a general or warrior feat. Optionally, one of these two feats may also be spent on an ogre cultural trait as listed above.

Skills:

As ogres begin play with 2 level in giant, they automatically receive 10+(int mod. x5) skill points which may be put into the skills Craft (any), Intimidate, Listen, Profession (any) and Spot.

Native Language:

Giant

Bonus Language:

Aldarian (Common)

Other Languages:

Cir, High Draconic, Ortuuk and Sindarin (Gray Elvish).Ogres speak their native language, and many find it useful to speak the tongues of their many enemies as well.

Level Adjustment: +2

In order to counteract some of the hefty bonuses that ogres receive, players who choose ogre as their race must apply a +2 level adjustment to their character to determine the experience needed for next level. For example, a 5th level ogre fighter (3 levels in fighter and 2 levels in ogre) would need to accumulate the total experience points needed to get to 8th level in order to advance to 6th level. In this case the ogre would need to accumulate 28,000 experience to reach his next level.

Favored Class: Fighter

A multi-class ogre fighter class does not count when determining whether he takes an experience point penalty (see XP for Multi-class Characters, page 60).
