Skisk,

I hope you have been able to keep our house in good order, my brother. Tell Lysn I send the usual greeting. Unfortunately, there is no time for pleasantries today.

The Hynerian proverb sums up my dire situation best: "The evil of blackmail disappears when exposed to the light of darker blackmail."

It would seem that Lord Wodwall VIII found a bit of information that successfully remained secret for nearly a century. As you well know, our illustrious uncle Vivan is responsible for the wealth and power which brought our house to prominence 80 years ago. As a trader, he was impeccable, in spite of, or perhaps because of, his lack of morals. "Illegal means better profit margin," Vivan used to say. A majority of his dealing are still a house secret, but unfortunately, Lord Wodwall uncovered one of the worst. While slave trading may be frowned upon, on most worlds it is still legal. Except, of course, when it comes to scientific experiments on sentient life forms. Lord Wodwall came into possession of proof that Vivan was for years selling humanoid slaves to a science lab. To make matters worse, these labs have been found to be at odds with Peacekeeper interests.

In exchange for this material not coming to light, I have been "asked" to help track down the wanted fugitive Migdall. Lord Wodwall thought my services would be of use since I have had business dealing with him in the past. Yes, this is the same Migdall that has been supplying our house with sensitive information on other Hynerian houses. For now, it seems that Lord Wodwall does not know that Midgal was more than a business contact. In addition, the information I've gathered so far hints that Migdall has information that would shed a very harsh light on Lord Wodwall's past.

This is turning out to be a very dangerous game. Simply put, I cannot let Migdall fall into Lord Wodwall's hands, as it might be revealed that he is not a casual business acquaintances but a spy in the employee of our house. Yet, I still must find Migdall as the information he has can be used to blackmail Lord Wodwall. Of course, Lord Wodwall would know that I could never reveal this information. But it should be enough to release the threat he has over our house. And, I must stay with my Hynerian confederates. As together, I have the best chance of finding him. Yet, I cannot let them actually get their hands on him. Should that situation occur…. "The dead do not talk in their sleep."

I continued with the rest of Hynerians sent by Lord Wodwall until our trail lead too close to our prey. I had planned to steal the Hynerian ship at an opportune time, leave my companions stranded, sell the ship, buy a less conspicuous one, grab Migdall, pump him for information, drop him off at some obscure location, and return home. When I talked with my contact on the Wheel, inquiring who I could sell a ship to, he directed me to a party that I found in the middle of a fire fight. It was all I could do to keep these incompetents from getting their bodies plugged full of holes. I have a feeling my contact lied to me. But it is my only choice. From what I've learned tracking down Migdall, this is the party he was traveling with last.

I am getting close to freedom.
