The Wheel is in orbit, approx. 1 AU from an unnamed star. Made of 23 pieces of a shattered Dyson sphere, the Wheel manages to maintain a relatively stable orbit.
The rest of the system, however, is made of the remaining pieces of the Dyson sphere in wild elliptical orbit, similar to the comets of a normal system. The pieces number in the thousands and are all the size of a mid-sized island. The slower and stable-orbit pieces have been salvaged for parts, power cores, and raw materials. The larger and more erratic pieces are rich in old technology.

From the data crystal from Puzzle 624, Ahsa, Rhisc, and the Vimm conclude that the pieces of the Wheel come from not a Dyson sphere, but a extra-dimensional science station of ancient origin. Not only that, but the builders of this station have a direct link with the Gahvid, if not being the Gahvid themselves.
The technology seems in be mostly centered on warfare, as well as biological creation and manipulation, as well as extra-dimensional science.
