Sunzi thinks: "I had Damien, but then the other half shut him out. That other half seemed to be the apprentice of Whisper's. Perhaps Pain of Glass and the apprentice already shared the same soul. As Mersy lay dead, I could only speculate that Whisper created her as a fragment of herself as a spiritual time-capsule to deal with the demon when the need arose. Having completed her task, this fraction, this little girl, hopefully returned to the Great Wheel, to rejoin the archmage. As for us, our task is finished. The spirits have left, and there is little left of the Euthanatos woman. A shame, as I wished to learn more. Our band split apart after resting our wounds. Some of us left a little wiser, others more driven, and a few shaken to their core. Whether or not we will meet again, is up to Fate.

The mages return to Colorado Springs to plan their next step. After much soul searching and discussion, the group agrees to one thing: to confront the damnpyr/demon and stop it. They choose the cave in Mexico to stage their final confrontation. Sunzi studies the psychology to sociopaths and mentally prepares a twin contact for Damien and Pain of Glass. Qwerty writes a program to redirect the abomination's railgun bullet back into the creature. Miraj nanobuilds a couple of ounces of C-4. Jesse focuses on withering the lifeforce of the creature through his own blood and scythe. Marcus draws a chalk rune circle to amplify force away from the group. And Myogin encircles himself to synchronize the rest. When the creature arrives, the mages fire their effects, mutilating the still living thing. The abomination picks Mersy by the head, and skewers her in the chest, as she jabs the blade of the krys into its head. Myogin tries to wrestle her free as they fall over the edge of the mountain. At the base, Mersy rejoins the krys, and stabs it once more, killing the hybrid. Jesse takes the krys and removes the demon heart, which vaporizes. Soon after, the krys vanishes. As the hybrid slowly disintegrates, Mersy breathes her last breath.
