Liero at it's heart is a deathmatch game where you control a worm and basically
take out your opponent before they do the same to you. It's based on real time
gameplay(unlike Worms,which is turn-based) where true skills in movement and firing is essential to winning. Matches
are played on levels that are comprised of dirt, tunnels and rocks. At first,
you'll begin to dig tunnels to move about, but this isn't the only method of
movement as your worm is also armed with a ninja rope. There are other gameplay modes available and with support for multiplay against a friend via the same computer. The game can be really hilarious. Other gameplay modes include capture the flag, tag and another variant on CTF. Single player mode lacks the competence in giving a satisfying fight. The computer worm is just plain stupid and often ends up commiting suicide. The interface is well displayed providing a split screen view of your opponent and yourself and a mini map of the level. You can configure everything from gameplay mode, number of lives, reloading times, all the way down to the weapons that are available for the upcoming round. Controls requires some practice but once you get used to movement, grappling and firing, the game is truly entertaining. The up and down keys control the crosshair as well as the digging direction. Liero has 40 weapons, and a level editor. However, you can download many hack programs that will create better levels and change the effects and such. Some are available for download at this website. In conclusion, should complete destruction and deathmatching be of interest to you, Liero is a superb game that can satisfy those needs.
