Karn and Ecdysis both appear as dark gray skinned humans with veiled eyes. They both have short, black hair, and no facial growth. Karn wears heavy black full plate, while Ecdysis wears black clothing with silver trim always. They both arm themselves with the weapons of their trade.
The twins Karn and Ecdysis Silverscale are dragon slayers. When they were young, their family was destroyed in an attack by a shadow dragon. After they were adopted they grew out of their hatred for dragons, and even befriended a silver adult, but this dragon was also slain by a shadow dragon. This was the last straw. After this, the twins learned the fine arts of dragon slaying from a group they encountered. Karn went with the more physical aspect of the dragon slayer, while Ecdysis showwed a more arcane talent than martial, and so learned the skills of the slayer mage. They then journeyed to the Plane of Shadow to pursue their querry. No matter how hard they tried, the shadow dragon wyrm always seemed to know they were coming and escape. They wondered how they were going to get the creature, when an old man came up to them, offering a fine reward to them if they could just help him with a problem. The problem was a dracolich that was sitting on top of his fortress, blasting down breath and spells upon the helpless soldiery. Karn and Ecdysis went up and fought the monster, winning the day. The reward for this feat was a transformation, a transformation into shades. The man said that as shades, the very elements that aided the shadow dragon would now lend themselves to the slayers. Pleased, the twins journeyed to the home of their foe, only to find that it had left. Discouraged, they went looking for other dragons, and clients to sell their services to. Over their career, several reds, blues, greens blacks, and whites have met their end at the hands of these slayers, as well as three shadows, while golds are required proof of misdeed and silvers will not be hunted. Their foe, named Penumbra, has managed to avoid the sword and spells of these two so far, however. They still seek him though, and now as shades they have the chance of a life span as long as his.
