A legendary cross between a megalodon and a gargantuan giant squid, the squark is a true terror of the seas. On Athas, this monster is unique, a one-of-a-kind of unknown origins confined to the Last Sea. On other worlds, if it even exists on other worlds, the squark is solitary. It will attack for food but needs to eat remarkably little for a creature of its size. So great an powerful is the squrk that it can even grab, stop, and sink greast vessels with its tentacles.

The squark is a blood red in color, from the tips of its tentacles to the tip of its nose. It has pink suction cups on its tentacles and its beady eyes are black. These, along with its white teeth, are the only things that vary in color from the rest of the monster. It has two long tentacles surrounded by eight more shorter tentacles where its shark's tail would be.

Special Attacks: The squark combines the nastiest attacks of a megalodon and a giant squid, and also brings innate psionics to the table.

__Psionics (Sp): At will-etherealness. Att/Def: At will-mind blast, ego whip/mental barrier, tower of iron will

__Improved Grab (tentacle) (Ex): To use this ability, the squark must hit a medium-size or smaller opponent with a tentacle rake attack. If it gets a hold, it can constrict

__Improved Grab (bite)(Ex): If a squark hits an opponent that is at least one size category smaller than itself with a bite attack, it deals normal damage and attempts to start a grapple as a free action without provoking an attack of opportunity (grapple bonus +40). If it gets a hold, it can try to swallow on the next round. Alternatively, the squark has the option to conduct the grapple normally, or simply use its jaws to hold the opponent (-20 penalty on grapple check, but the squark is not considered grappled). In either case, each successful grapple check it makes during successive rounds automatically deals bite damage.

__Swallow Whole (Ex): A squark can swallow a single creature that is at least one size category smaller than itself by making a successful grapple check (grapple bonus +40), provided it already has that opponent in its mouth (see Improved Grab, above). Once inside the squark, , the opponent takes 2d8+10 points of bludgeoning damage plus 1d8+4 points of acid damage per round from the squark's gullet. A successful grapple check allows the creature to climb out of the gullet and return to its maw, where another successful grapple check ios required to get free. Alternatively, a swallowed creature can try to cut its way out with either claws or a light piercing or slashing weapon. Dealing at least 25 points of damage to the gullet (AC 20) in this way creates an opening large enough to permit escape. Once a single swallowed creature exits, muscular actioon closes the hole; thus another swallowed opponent must cut its own way out. The squark's gullet can hold 2 Huge, 8 Large, 32 Medium-size, or 128 Small or smaller opponents.

__Constrict (Ex): A squark deals automatic tentacle rake damage with a successful grapple check against Medium-size or smaller creatures.

Special Qualities: The squark has the special qualities of both the giant squid and a megalodon.

__Ink Cloud (Ex): A squark can emit a cloud of jet-black ink 20 feet high by 20 feet wide by 40 feet long once a minute as a free action. The cloud provides total concealment, which the squark usually uses to escape a losing fight. Creatures within the cloud suffer the effects of total darkness. Even darkvision cannot see through this cloud.

__Jet (Ex): A squark can jet backwards once a round as a double move, at a speed of 320 feet.

__Keen Scent (Ex): A squark can notice creatures by scent in a 180-foot radius and detect blood in the water at ranges of up to a mile.
