Unique Ability: Drain Arrow-- Tharivol is an exceptioanl archer, and has developed an interesting power over the years, that amkes use of both his skills and his curse. This special power creates an ethereal cord connecting the arrow to Tharivol's hand. Until this arrow is removed, should it connect, the target will be affected by Tharivol's energy drain. It has a range of 60 feet, and a DC 18 Strength check must be made to wrench the arrow free, causing an additional 1d3 damage. A round where this is used, it is the only attack Tharivol is permitted.

Unique Possessions: Bottle of Sanctuary-- As a vampire, there are times when Tharivol cannot be active, such as during the day, and even in locales where the sun isn't an issue, say the Underdark, vampires need some time with their soil. To fill most of these needs, Tharivol had this bottle fashioned. Within it, there is a small dimensional space, much like that of a bag of holding, and it is filled with a coffin, which contains the necessary soil for Tharivol to rest. During the day, Tharivol can turn into a gas, seep into the bottle, and then, once within, return to his elf shape, and rest in his coffin. However, if someone were to stick a cork in it, Tharivol would be trapped, so, to help prevent this, he often hides his bottle behind rocks, or in the bowls of trees., and to further dissuade nuissances, the bottle is enchanted with a suggestion (Will DC 21) to ignore it.

Tharivol is still mostly elven in appearance, and his willpower, with the strange powers of Ravenloft in unison, has somehow allowed him to remain attractive, unlike most elven vampires, who become hideous. He has short, silvery hair, red-irised eyes, and porcelain-tone skin. He often wears clothing that favors deep green, white, and/or black. At all times, Tharivol also wears white gloves, to prevent his Black Thumb curse from being a nuissance.

A terrible fate for anyone, vampirism is even worse for elves, for it deprives them of their affinity with nature, of their friends and families, and of their appearance; elves turn into hideous monsters during the transformation. For Tharivol, it was a true pain. His home attacked by drow, he discovered that the Matron Mother accompanying them was a vampire, and she infected him. The amount of pain he felt was strong enough to summon the Mists of Ravenloft, which enveloped Tharivol and all of the drow, leaving the few survivors confused, but alive. Once in Ravenloft, the Mists shaped him into a rather unique type of vampire: his appearance did not wither, and his resolve was enough to maintain his alignment, but he still became undead, and he still lost his direct affinity for nature, being anathema to all living things. He has attempted to take this in stride, and gloves can do wonders. His maker, who died in one of his first and few berserk rages, is no longer a concern, and after escaping the Mists, Tharivol returned to Faerun, but he found that he had been gone for a decade and his family and friends had moved on with their lives. Now Tharivol journeys in search of drow and vampires, and destroys those he finds.

Note: does 1d8+8 damage at a range of 220 ft that can ignore cover, any damage reduction of +5 or less, and the penalties for firing into melee combat. It can be reloaded as a free action and can make an extra single attack each round.

Various Attacks:
When I was writing Tharivol, I learned that he, specifically, had a whole hell of a lot of attack variations. Here are as many as I could come up with.

  • "Albino Elf", by Brandi L. Giacchetta, found at Elfwood. A picture that, when I found it, I knew it had to be Tharivol, and counted myself as lucky. Anyway, I finally found it again, so that I could give the artist credit. Thanks to the artist for unknowingly creating the perfect image of my character, without ever even knowing you did.
