Vard was a man of God. He once faithfully served Torm, until the day his lust overpowered his zealousness. While entrusted to care for an injured paladin and his wife, Vard seduced the woman to his bed. The next morning, Vard and the woman were discovered by the paladin, who was obviuosly offended. He moved to strike Vard down, but Vard used his magic to compel the woman to be his shield, and the paladin inadvertently killed her. Enraged, the paladin again moved in, but then Vard used his power to strike the paladin down. Torm, enraged at this, appeared before his wayward cleric, and when confronted, Vard denounced his former patron, and was stripped of his power. Enraged, Vard ran out into the world, using parlor tricks and magical items to impersonate a priest of Torm, until he was always discovered but got away. When he finally died, his force of will was so strong that he became Unhallowed. After this, he left Faerun for the Nine Hells. There, he discovered how to steal a deity's power against its will, thus becoming an ur-priest. Upon returning to Faerun again, Vard attached his parasitic essence to Torm, and now gains the powers he once had. Torm, only partly aware of this, has told his faithful to find this man and strike him down, but he cannot yet pinpoint Vard's location.

Note: Ur-Hierophant is not a separate prestige class; it is as presented under hierophant in FRCS. It is just that Vard did not lose his powers of the hierophant prestige class as he did his initial powers of cleric.
