3rd Edition Dungeons & Dragons Style Zerg

Zerg

The Eternal Swarm. The Zerg are insect-like beings from an unknown plane.

Info Regarding All Zerg: All zerg units and buildings have the following traits, if applicable:

Regeneration (Ex): All Zerg can regenerate. Treat any Zerg unit or building as having Fast Healing 5.

Hive Mind: Due to the Overmind, the Zerg are all mentally connected. This allows them to know everyone else's thoughts and know what's going on. It also makes the Zerg immune to Fear effects.

Carapace: Due to the naturally hard carapace of the insectlike zerg, all zerg have DR 5/+1.

Hit Dice: All zerg have d12 Hit Dice.

Type Specifics: Other than all the above, which all zerg have, the following are special of the individual units. They are as follows:

Zergling- Speed 60, 2 Claws 1d4 damage. Burrow.

Hydralisk- considered armed with two short swords (damage 1d6/1d6). Burrow. Can mutate into Lurker.

Lurker- Attack while burrowed.

Overlord- Psychic Talent (ultrablast (13 PPPs), catapsi field; 50 PPPs), permanent true sight. Levitate: Due to air sacs within the Overlord, it is naturally buoyant, thus benefitting from a permanent levitate spell. Transport: An Overlord can carry and debark 8 medium-sized, 4 large, or 2 huge creatures.

Scourge- Fly 120. Suicide dive (5d10 damage).

Mutalisk-

Guardian- Levitate: Due to air sacs within the Overlord, it is naturally buoyant, thus benefitting from a permanent levitate spell.

Devourer- Levitate: Due to air sacs within the Overlord, it is naturally buoyant, thus benefitting from a permanent levitate spell.

Queen- Parasite: Can implant a node within target. Connects target one-way to the Hive Mind, thus allowing later locating to be done. Spawn Broodling: Levitate: Due to air sacs within the Queen, it is naturally buoyant, thus benefitting from a permanent levitate spell.

Ultralisk- DR 10/+3,

Defiler-

Infested Terran- Effective Full Plate, Suicide Rush (1d100 damage).

Air units and structures to follow later.

After reading the above, here are the descriptions of what each type is.

Zergling- The most basic ground attacker, Zerglings are man-sized little bastards who attack en masse.

Hydralisk- The most common Zerg seen, the Zergling is a distance attacker.

Lurker- Hydralisks can mutate into Lurkers. Once done, the Lurker must burrow into the ground to attack, but is a very potent force. They cannot be attacked while underground unless their opponents have some way to find them

Overlord- The conduits of the will of the Overmind, the Overlords are the controllers of the endless Swarms. Once, they were floating transports that could see invisible things, but with the resurgence of the Overmind, it has given them the ability to focus the power of its psychic might into ultrablasts that they may fire at enemies and structures. They also have learned to fear psychic attacks, due to the battles waged with the Protoss, and so the Overmind has empowered its Overlords with catapsi. Due to its latent psychic aptitude, the Zerg near an Overlord also benefit from the catapsi field, with a range of 100 yards. However, the Overmind needs these floating squids to exert control over the Swarms when away from home. Each Overlord can control 20 Hit Dice of Zerg, other than themselves. Without the Overlords, the other Zerg will attack mindlessly, even fighting each other and wrecking structures.

Scourge- Airborne kamikaze troops, the winged sacs of acid known as Scourges were bred by the Overmind to destroy powerful aerial creatures, such as beholders or dragons. Their only purpose is to throw themselves into flying enemies, though they are fast enough to serve as scouts, due to the Hive Mind.

Mutalisk- Bred as the Swarms primary air-based warrior.

Devourer- Sometimes, the Swarm needs to attack powerful forces or siege fortifications, and the floating crab-like Devourers serve this role. They can't engage air-based targets, though, and could be destroyed, so the Zerg Mutalisk can also choose to evolve into a Devourer. Devourers spray plumes of acid, similar to the breath weapon of a black dragon.

Queen- Odd specialized Zerg, the Queens create the Infested Terrans, tag people for later following, and destory strong things with their chest-burster broodlings.

Ultralisk- The ultimate warrior of the Zerg, this powerhouse is a true death sentence to almost anything that can't get high into the air.

Defiler- These are the Zerg ground combat specialists, and are therefore very rare.

Infested Terrans- Every once in a while, the Zerg come across and conquer human or demihuman settlements. On occasion, instead of massacaring everone to feed the Zerg metabolism, the Zerg keep captives who are injected with the blood of the Zerg. Once injected, the organisms in the blood cause the subjects to transform, in a great amount of pain, into a running bomb. Their blood become supertoxic acid, and the Infested Terran attacks by blowing itself to bits, taking out several victims at once in doing so.

Cerebrates: Demigods of the Zerg
The Overmind is a powerful deity, but it cannot be everywhere, and so it has elevated several entities, called cerebrates, to the level of demigod. These beings have no physical attacks, but a potent psychic creatures, and they control vast numbers of Zerg, mastering any within 100 miles of itself. There are 8 known Cerebrates.

The Overmind
The Eternal Will of the Swarm. The Overmind is a greater deity that controls the Cerebrates, and thus the Swarm. Once, it was slayed by the Protoss, and Kerrigan ruled the Swarm, then several Cerebrates melded together into a new Overmind, usurping her control. She arranged for it to be destroyed again by the Protoss, and again it has returned. Now, it controls Kerrigan more closely, and has enhanced the power it funnels through its servants so that they may more easily combat the powerful psychic powers of their primary enemy, the Protoss. The Overmind itself is an immoble mass of brain tissue, much like Illsensine, and it does very little directly.
