The Aiel Waste, or the Three-fold Land as they call it, is a large desert located to the west of the Spine of the World. Because of the lack of water, it is a commodity more precious than gold. Speaking of gold, Aiel carry their riches in the form of jewelry. Holds, or settlements, are few and far between and are most often located in caves or cliffs with water and shade.
Aiel Society:
The society is divided into twelve clans, each of which consists of many septs. A sept may have one or more holds, of which some are permanent and some are seasonal. The clans are lead by the clan chiefs. Among the Aiel, those who fight have a class of their own called Algai’d’siswai. Aiel are hard, strong people who usually do not choose to leave the Three-fold Land.
