Description: Members of the Noble class use their intelligence and charisma to make their way in the world. True royalty and nobility, elected officials, very wealthy merchants, military commanders, and even some crime lords- the people who make up this class are varied and numerous. Some are honorable, whereas others are sly and treacherous. With a winning smile, a golden tongue, or a powerful message, the noble commands respect, friends, and, ultimately, influence over people.
Adventures: An adventuring noble might be an aide to a more powerful noble, a wealthy merchant, a diplomat, a crusading reformer, a military comander, or the like. Nobles often feel that they need to protect and feel responsible for others, though many also feel that they are better then others as well.
Characteristics: Nobles foster the feelings of good will and honesty (or at least the illusion of such) to achieve and succeed. Where other classes would charge into a fight, the noble asks questions and hope to end things by negotiating a deal, exploiting the respect others feel for his position, or by using his wealth and resources. Nobles, typically, are good talkers, negotiators, and bluffers, and the military training many of them recieve makes them worthy adversaries in combat. They have a knack for inspiring others, and make good leaders.
Origins: Nobles can come to their profession in a variety of ways, but most are born into a noble or royal family, then trained from their earliest days to assume the mantle of responsibility.
Backgrounds: Every kingdom in the westlands has its nobles, and even the Aiel, Atha'an Miere, and Ogier have the "upper classes" that qualify as nobles. Cairhein and Arad Doman, with their extensive nobility lineages and their societal influence from the Great Game, are the best known groups of nobles, but Andor, Tear, Illian, and many other realms have broad and powerful peerages as well.
Examples of Nobles from the books: Queen Morgase, Lady Colavaere, Lord Luc. <
