Fan Fiction Requirements

Main
Fan Fiction
Beta-Readers

NOTE: We are not currently accepting submissions, so until further notice, the rest of this page is irrelevant. -10/29/04

We have high acceptance standards and tend to break our own rules. Hear us roar.

1. It must be about Elijah Wood (duh) unless I say it's okay, but that's a rarity, there are only a skim few who I'm willing to break that rule with.

2. NC-17s must be tasteful! There has to be a storyline of SOME sort... depth, surrealism, poignance and extra points if it has pain. We're masochists.

3. No Mary-Sues. If you don't know what a Mary-Sue is, I direct you here.

4. {excerpt from Violet & Claire, by Francesca Lia Block}
"The main thing is conflict," I told her.

She paused to jam a blue hydrangea into her backpack. "I don't like conflict," she said. "I'm a Libra."

You know: scales, balancing...

Even if you're a Libra, it's not a story unless there's conflict of some kind.

5. The usage of someone elses story written in your words (ie: plagariasm, which is illegal) is not allowed.

6. Um ... no typing like ThIs, SeEiNg HoW tHiS iS vErY hArD tO rEaD.

7. (also see #9) You MUST use Spellcheck. MUSTMUSTMUSTMUST!

8. On the subject of slash (gay or homosexual) fics:

Slash is fucking fabulous. I read a Sir Ian McKellen quote about fan fiction and slash and saying how as long as it's fictional it doesn't matter what people write.

9. If you want someone to review your fic before you send it in and give you comments and edit it for you, I suggest you find a willing beta-reader.

10. If you just want us to read a fic you found or wrote because you admire our talents (cough) or want us to give you feedback, go ahead and send your stories to us... we like to be surprised by stories in our inboxes. (extra points if it's Domlijah, Orlijah or Danlijah -Mercedes is especially enthusiastic about Danlijah, if you write it, let her know-)

11. You can send your stories as HTML files, or within the body of the email. My computer HATES .DOC files most of the time, so don't send them in that format. Text files are fine, but they won't show up with italics, bold, underlined, or in various fonts and sizes.

So to review that:

Send your fics...

In the body of the email
As an HTML
As a TXT

NOT in .DOC format

With all of that in mind, go ahead and send in your fan fiction. Isabel, Dizzy and I will review what you send us and let you know if we're willing to host you.

Unfortunately, we're not able to host everything everyone submits for one reason or another. If it takes us awhile to get back to you, it's probably because A. We're busy. B. We're depressed. C. You didn't use spell check. D. We're being attacked by rabid emu. E. We're making passionate love to Elijah in a bathtub with the sound of magpies outside and chess pieces rolling on the floor.
