Frodo Baggins and Samwise Gamgee... that's what this is all about. Two not so ordinary but o so lovable hobbits of The Shire, and their roles in the perilous quest of the Ring.


Frodo Baggins

Orphaned at age 12 after a boating accident, Frodo lived alone with his relatives in Buckland until he was adopted by his second cousin Bilbo in Hobbiton. Growing up he was always seen as "odd" and "different" or just plain "not right in the head," but was always respected.
He was much more refined, mindful, and deep than the other hobbits of his age, almost regal. He is the second cousin of Merriadoc Brandybuck, and best friends with Samwise Gamgee (in case you were wondering).
Frodo also has an afiliation with adventures and wild things that are looked down upon in the simple lands of Hobbiton. Such attitudes and ties are what makes him so closely acquainted with the Wizard Gandalf.
Throughout LOTR Frodo makes himself out to be the rightfully appointed bearer of the One Ring of Sauron. The love of his friends fuels his every move and decision, allowing him to walk it straight into Mordor.
In the movie, I dunno... Frodo is depicted as somewhat of a wimp. Which disapointed me because well, I always saw myself as Frodo, as did all my friends who read the book. Plus, it's not so good for those who are simple with just watching the screen, and not picking up a book.
Personally I felt a kinship with book Frodo from the start (oh so many years ago). However, not only is he in my heart, making almost 100% of my personality, he is also who I wish to be later in life when I am at my best. I admire him more than alot of fictional (and real life) people. He is me, I am him, he is the me in my dreams. He is the true Diamond Senshi/Endymion.

Samwise(Sam) Gamgee

Samwise Gamgee, dearest hobbit, friend of friends, is ultimately my favorite and most beloved of all fictional characters.
He grew up with his father Hamfast Gamgee (the Gaffer) and Bell Goodchild in Bagshot Row (a sort of, hobbit hole neighborhood in Hobbiton just at the foot of Bag End where frodo and bilbo live). He's a gardener for the baggins family and very close to both Bilbo and Frodo Baggins, especially Frodo however.
Samwise had always been told he wasn't really the smartest tool in the shed, and grew up with the simple, "normal" life, if it had to be put that way. However, he was always one to trust more to his heart and not his head anyway (so admirable *swoon*).
He is probably the epidemy of goodness in any creature alive, willing to sacrifice it all unconditionally for those whom he loves most, in this case, Frodo.
Sam was "appointed" to aid Frodo in the first stage of their quest by helping him to Rivendelle. However, the fact that Sam was always there regardless of danger proves that he would have gone anyway.
Sam has all the most powerful moments of the story when it comes to facing true fear with love. In the boat scene on the river Anduin, the Stairs of Cirith Ungol, the Shelob Battle, and in the Tower of Cirith Ungol, Sam not only makes me cry but demonstrates true power as a soldier/partner/friend or whatever you would label him to be. He is courage and the ultimate representation of undying goodness. Not once had he ever tried to claim the ring for his own, or commit any selfish acts that would put the safety of his "Mr. Frodo" or the Quest at risk.
Sure yah, soemtimes he could appear to be rash, a little foolish, and a soft hearted crybaby to some, but he makes everyone feel loved as they should. He does everything in his power to make the world safe for his loved ones, even by sacrificing himself. Can you say you honestly have any friends like that?
