Part 19
With that, Howie closed the door and Sarah let out a squeal of happiness. She was getting married tonight…to the man of her dreams. She rushed back into the bathroom to finish doing her makeup, which was now a mess because of the tears, and to fix her hair.
As she was fixing her hair, there was a light knock on the door and it opened slowly. "Sarah?"
"I’m in the bathroom, Kevin. I’m almost done here."
"I’ll lay your dress on the bed and wait downstairs for you."
"Kev, I’m gonna need help with it." Sarah heard him groan softly and she laughed. "It won’t be that bad," she said as she came out of the bathroom.
"You don’t have any modesty, do you?" asked Kevin when he saw
her.
"Kevin, you’ve seen me with less."
"Yeah, but not on your wedding day! What would they say?"
"Nothing because we don’t have to tell them. Howie said you had my bouquet."
"Yeah. It’s downstairs."
"Go get it so I can see it."
Kevin left and returned a few minutes later. By then, Sarah had her dress on and was trying to button her dress. He stopped at the door to look at her. "You’re breathtaking," he said in a soft voice.
Sarah turned to look at him and smiled, "Thank you."
Kevin handed her the bouquet of white roses, ivy, and baby’s breathe and began to help her with the rest of the buttons on her dress. When he was done, Sarah pulled some of the baby’s breathe out for her hair. She stood looking in the mirror as she positioned it just right. Then she slipped on her shoes that Kevin handed her.
"How do I look?"
"Like an Angel…Howie’s angel. Are you ready?"
"I think so. God…I can’t believe this is happening, Kevin. It’s all so fast."
Kevin smiled, "And all you wanted was for him to propose!"
Sarah laughed, "Yeah…that’s all I wanted."
"May I be the first to kiss the bride?"
Sarah gave him a quizzical look. "Are you sure a kiss is all you want?"
"Yeah! A simple brotherly kiss! I promise!" said Kevin as he put his hand over his heart.
Sarah stood on her toes and Kevin gave her a tender kiss on the lips. Then he offered her his arm and she took it.
Downstairs, a horse-drawn carriage waited for her and Kevin helped her in. As they rode to the chapel, Sarah and Kevin talked about the day and what had happened with Becca and Nick. Kevin laughed at Nick’s letting the boat drift into the sea grass and Howie’s aggravation over it all.
