Part 273
With Jesse safely tucked into Howie’s dressing room, Sarah and the guys made their way to the green room where the press waited for them. As they walked in, Jeff handed Sarah several sheets of paper with questions on it.
"What’s this?" asked Sarah as she looked it over.
"A script for the interview. Don’t answer any questions that aren’t on this list," answered Jeff.
"I don’t need this," protested Sarah looking to Howie and Kevin. "You guys have always said I know how to handle myself and don’t need scripted interviews."
"Management won’t let this interview happen without it," said Kevin.
"It has NOTHING to do with being able to handle yourself, Sarah," reassured Brian. "Even we’re doing a scripted interview for this."
Sarah looked at Howie who nodded his head. "He’s right, Angel," he said gently.
The reporter from the United States asked, "Are you ready to get started, Sarah?"
Sarah looked to the guys who all nodded their heads for encouragement. Reluctantly, she responded, "As ready as I’ll ever be, I guess."
Sarah sat on the couch with Howie and Kevin on either side and the other three sat behind her on the back of the couch. Howie took her hand lacing his fingers with hers and stroking the back with his thumb. Leaning to her, he kissed her tenderly and whispered his love for her in her ear.
Nick was directly behind Sarah and he put his hands on her shoulders. Leaning over, he kissed her on the cheek. "We’re all here for you, sis."
Sarah looked over her shoulder at him and smiled gratefully all the while thinking, ‘Why does he aggravate the hell out of me and then turn around and be so damn sweet?’
The interview began by congratulating Nick on Garrett’s birth, which had everyone smiling for the beginning of the interview. Then it turned to Sarah and her ordeal in Boston and her efforts to get to Toronto. As she talked, all the emotions of those thirty-six hours came flooding back and several times her voice cracked. Each time, Howie squeezed her hand to reassure her but eventually, she just couldn’t go on. Kevin stepped in to talk about raising money for Danny’s family as Howie put his arms around his wife while she cried silently.
When the interview ended, Kevin asked, "When will this air…so we can give our families a heads up?"
"In a couple days in the States but we’ve agreed to let the Canadian stations run it tonight."
Sarah panicked at the thought of Becca seeing it and being alone in the hospital room. "Nick! Becca…she’s all alone. She can’t see it!"
"Nah…she’ll most likely sleep through it."
"Nick, I don’t know," said Sarah shaking her head.
"I do. Denise said she slept most of last night and that she hadn’t been watching that much TV. Stop worrying."
Skeptically, Sarah said, "If you aren’t worried…fine."
Sarah watched Nick head out with Brian and AJ before she and Howie headed to get ready for the show. As they were walking to the dressing room, thoughts of Becca and the interview were quickly pushed aside as Fatima joined them to talk to Sarah about the show.
