Part 34
Howie turned to Nick. "Well, that's what I call moving fast."
"It's been too long already, Howie. This is where I need to be, with Becca."
"What about the tour?"
"To make a long story short, the wedding is in two weeks and she's coming with us."
"TWO WEEKS?"
"Yep," he grinned. "Just something simple. I'll tell you all about when you and Sarah get back."
Carson had wandered over and was trying, unsuccessfully, to be inconspicuous. "So … Nick? What's going on?" he smiled as Howie winked at him and went to change for the trip to Miami.
"This was Becca's idea, Carson, but we need to set up a few rules. First of all, I don't want any of this breaking until a week AFTER you air the stuff for Howie and Sarah."
Carson nodded in agreement. "That's not a problem. What else?"
Nick sighed. "Becca and I have been through a lot, a lot that the public doesn't need to know about, so I'd like the announcement made simply and then dropped from rotation."
"Nick, I don't know if I can do that."
"Then there's no release for airing any of it. That's the way it has to be. It's a different situation with Becca. She's not used to all this yet, and well … with the baby and all, I just don't want to overwhelm her, you know?"
"Nick, you know what its going to be like for her on the road, it's not going to be easy."
"I know, trust me, I know. Ok, so next time we’re in New York how 'bout an interview? Just the three of us - you, me and Bec?"
Carson thought about it and nodded. "It's a deal. And when you come, bring wedding pictures that we can air."
"I can do that." They shook hands on the deal as Carson laughed.
"What?"
"When did you become such a shrewd businessman, Carter?"
"You know, up till now it's only been me that's been out there in front of everyone. But I have a family to protect now, so the stakes just got a lot higher."
"Good luck, Nick, I mean that. We’ll see you in the studio soon." Carson slapped him on the back and went to mingle.
