Part 434

As breakfast wound down, talk turned to the softball game. Kevin said, "Okay, there’s the five of us and our bodyguards. Should we ask any of the dancers or band?"

"Yeah," answered Brian. "That way we’d have substitutes."

Sarah asked, "What about wives and girlfriends?"

Kevin looked at the three girlfriends. "Lynne, Ali, Sonja, you ladies wanna join us?"

All three gave a resounding ‘no’ and Kevin started back talking about who was gonna play what position.

Sarah looked at Becca and mouthed, "What the fuck?"

Becca laughed and shrugged her shoulders.

"Excuse me, Mr. Large and In Charge! I DID say WIVES too."

"Don’t be ridiculous, Sarah. Neither one of you can play."

"Why not?" Sarah knew what the answer was and it wasn’t like she was going to play. She knew she shouldn’t but she knew that her insisting that Kevin let her was going to make his head explode and she was in the mood to be a pain to him. It was also the fact that she and Becca weren’t even considered.

"Well, let’s see. Becca just had a baby three weeks ago and you’re pregnant with twins."

"So? It doesn’t mean we’re cripples. I want to play."

The ones who knew Sarah and Kevin really well were trying to contain their laughter knowing they were about to butt heads. They were also trying to stay out of the line of fire.

Nick leaned to Lynne and whispered, "It’s about to get interesting."

Kevin looked at Sarah and said flatly, "NO," then turned back to what he was saying.

"I could catch and have Raoul run for me when I bat."

"No!"

"Pitch?"

"No!"

"Right field?"

"NO!"

Sarah knew she wasn’t getting anywhere so she said, "How many of YOU bozos were all-state three years in a row in DIFFERENT positions?"

"Doesn’t matter now. NO!"

"Fine, I’ll play for the other team."

That caused Kevin to turn back to her and fire shot from his eyes. "I said, you are NOT playing and I meant it. If I have to, I’ll have Raoul lock you on the bus and you won’t see the game."

"Raoul won’t listen to you because YOU don’t pay his salary and you are NOT in charge of me."

"No, but Howie does. Howie?"

"Actually, Sarah pays his salary so leave me out of this."

"You don’t mean you’re gonna let her play, are you?"

"I’ve told you I don’t control Sarah. You know her as well as I do. She’s going to do what she wants and I can’t stop her. I’d rather she didn’t play but it’s up to her."

Sarah stuck her tongue out at Kevin and he rolled his eyes in frustration. "Fine! You can play right field," he conceded.

Nonchalantly, as she took a sip of her juice, Sarah said, "Don’t really wanna play anyway. I’ll keep score or something."

Howie smirked and gave Becca a wink as she too smiled. He had known all along that Sarah wasn’t going to play. They had already discussed it in the room before Kevin had returned.

Kevin looked at her, "You are the most…the most…"

"Frustrating?" offered AJ.

"Irritating?" suggested Nick.

"Exasperating?" was Becca’s suggestion.

"Aggravating?" was Brian’s contribution.

Kevin pointed to them all and glared at Sarah, "What THEY said. You are the most frustrating, irritating, exasperating, aggravating woman I know."

Sarah smiled sweetly. "But you love me anyway."

Kevin grinned. "Yeah, I do. Let’s roll guys. We still need to check out and put our stuff on the right buses. I’m gonna send the other three buses on to Boise."

The guys ‘saluted’ Kevin as they all began to head back to get ready to leave. It was going to be a fun day and they were looking forward to the lull in their schedule.
