Part 454

Lynne turned off the lights and pulled a blanket up over Becca’s sleeping form. The meds had kicked in and in no time flat she was out like a light. She closed the door quietly and went to join Kevin and Nick who were hovering nearby and talking softly.

"Nick, what was Bec talking about earlier? About Denver?" Kevin asked, rocking Garrett to and fro.

Nick sighed. "Sarah and Howie are going on ahead to Denver to sightsee and they invited Becca and me to join them."

"Sounds great, Nick. Becca could use the diversion." Lynne leaned against Kevin and began to stroke Garrett’s soft hair.

"Not a good idea, Lynne," Kevin said.

"Why not?"

"Because Denver is-"

"Denver is where Becca lived when she left me last year," Nick finished softly. "Howie and Sarah asked us to go with them, show them around, you know?" He reached out and took his son from Kevin, holding him against his chest and kissing the top of his head gently. "Becca won’t admit it, but it’s really got her spooked. She didn’t want to say anything in front of anyone else, but I think Denver is the last place on earth she’d want to go back to."

"That will be pretty hard on her, Nick." Lynne sighed. "No wonder she’s got a migraine, especially if she’s holding all of that inside."

"Yeah, well, that’s my wife." Nick chuckled. "I know she’ll be okay, and honestly? I think she needs to do this so that she can move on."

"Probably," Kevin agreed. "If there’s something we can do just ask, okay?"

"You guys have done a lot already, thanks. Hey, I saw a basketball goal out back. Me and Garrett are gonna go shoot some hoops. See you two later!" Hugging Lynne and slapping Kevin on the back, he wandered away, the tiny baby still perched against his shoulder.
