Part 466
Tommy left and Howie looked down at his sleeping wife. God, Nick had been right. She was so sweet and innocent when she slept. There she was next to him, her hair falling haphazardly around her but mostly in her face, her hand on his pillow as if she were searching for him. He laughed softly as she mumbled unintelligibly. Leaning to her, he kissed her lightly on the lips.
"Wake up, ‘Angel’," he whispered moving her hair aside.
Sarah mumbled again and reached to move his hand away.
Howie took her hand in his kissing the back of it. A little louder but just as sweetly, Howie said, "Sweetheart, we’re in Denver and it’s time to wake up."
Sarah eyes started to flutter as she began to wake. "Mmmm….’D’?"
"I’m right here, ‘Angel’," he answered placing a kiss on her lips.
"Where are we?"
Patiently, "Denver….and it’s snowing."
Sarah’s eyes flew open and she looked out the window. Sure enough, she could see the small flakes whirling in the wind. "How did you manage to arrange that?"
Laughing, Howie said, "I’m not THAT good."
"Oh, I don’t know about that. You’re pretty amazing about making sure I have everything my heart desires. Why should this be any different?" cooed Sarah as she ran her fingers along his cheek and into his hair.
"I can’t control the weather, ‘Angel’. Come on. I need to go in and register us and see about breakfast. Do you want anything in particular?"
"No, not really. I don’t feel like eating."
"What’s wrong?" asked Howie with concern.
"The usual."
"Why don’t you go get a shower and I’ll go in to take care of those two things? I can come back and get you."
"Raoul can walk with me in."
"No, he can’t. I told Tommy they could take off until the day of the show. I’ll come back to get you."
"Thank you. Is there any ginger ale on the bus?"
"And saltines. I’ll go get them."
Sarah lay back and moaned as the bed shifted with Howie getting up. She was trying hard not to throw up.
Howie wasn’t long and when he returned, he sat beside her on the bed again. He helped her to sit up before handing her the drink. Watching her nibble at the crackers, he asked, "Did you get enough sleep?"
"Yeah. I did. Once I got that song out of my head, I had no problem."
Howie smiled. "I’ve done that before. Is the song ready?"
"Yeah. I just want Kevin or AJ to listen to it."
Howie brushed her cheek. "I’m sure it will be perfect. Feeling better now?"
"A little. Go on inside. I’ll be ready in a few minutes."
Howie couldn’t help himself. He leaned in quickly and stole a kiss before getting up to get dressed.
Sarah leaned against the pillows, sipping the ginger ale and watching as he pulled on his jeans, the same ones she had frantically pulled off of him last night. A smile brightened her eyes at the memory.
Howie caught her and asked, "What are you smiling about?"
"You! Do you now how many girls would die to trade places with me?"
"Do you WANT to trade places with THEM?"
"NO!" answered Sarah quickly.
A laugh escaped at how quickly she had answered. "Even if it meant not having to deal with the morning sickness?"
"Even if it meant not dealing with the morning sickness," answered Sarah as she took his hand pulling him back to her. She sat up on her knees and ran her hands across his chest. "You keep me focused on the payoff."
"I’ll never get dressed if you keep this up," he answered as Sarah began to kiss his neck.
"Ummm…not a bad idea. What else am I keeping up?" she purred running her hand to his crotch.
Howie closed his eyes at the feel of her hand. "Nothing…YET!" Stepping away from her, he slipped his shirt on and Sarah reached out to button it for him. "I won’t be long, ‘Angel’."
"Don’t you think you should put on some shoes, ‘D’?" teased Sarah seeing that he was starting out barefooted.
Howie looked down. "Yeah, I guess it would help. You had me kinda distracted."
Sarah smirked, "Kinda? I’d say completely."
Howie finished getting dressed, gave Sarah another kiss, and started out the bus only to meet Nick who was getting on. "Hey, Nicky! Where’s the family?"
"Bec’s feeding Garrett. What are we doing for breakfast?"
"I’m going to check on it now. Want to join me?"
"Nah…I need to talk to Sarah about Becca’s birthday."
"She’s getting ready to take a shower."
"I’ll wait."
Sarah stuck her head out. "Nick, grab my laptop and boot it up while I get a shower. We can check out the restaurants in San Bernadino."
"Why there?" asked Nick clueless.
"Oh good god!" groaned Howie rolling his eyes. "I’m gone."
Howie blew Sarah a kiss and left her to deal with Nick and plans for Becca’s birthday.
"Nick, we’ll be in San Bernadino on Becca’s birthday," explained Sarah calmly after Howie was gone. "Go on and boot up. I won’t be long."
With the laptop booted up and the connection made, Nick decided to start searching. Sarah was taking longer than he had thought she would. Only one problem….he couldn’t spell San Bernadino. So he decided to go ask Sarah.
Sarah was letting the water wash over her one final time when she heard the
door open and Nick call her hesitantly. "Sarah?
She could tell by the sound of his voice that he had his back to the door trying
NOT to look in. "Yeah, Nick. What do you need?"
"How do you spell San Bernadino?"
Sarah smiled to herself. Men…what would they do without us? "S*a*n*B*e*r*n*a*d*I*n*o"
"Thanks" and the door clicked shut.
