Part 534

The staged meteor shower was in full swing when Sarah and Becca finally made it back to the dressing rooms. Becca leaned against the closed door and sighed deeply, closing her eyes.

"Bec?" Sarah laughed.

"I’m exhausted," she moaned. "And SOOO out of shape. My god, I only did two songs, two SLOW songs and I can barely move. How do the guys do it every night?"

Sarah cackled. "Fatima. That’s how they do it. You know she works them like the dogs that they are, or they’d never be able to move their asses out there. Especially Nick, and you know how big-"

"Hey! Leave my husband’s ass alone, okay?" She giggled, reaching for a bottle of water and winking at Sarah.

"Umm … sis?"

"Hmm?" Becca mumbled as she chugged her water.

"Where’s Garrett?" Sarah looked around, surely Becca hadn’t left him backstage somewhere.

"Who?" Becca deadpanned, and then gasped. "Oh my god! I’ve lost the baby!"

Sarah was halfway out the door when she realized Becca was laughing hysterically.

"Rebecca!"

Becca was holding her sides, and tears were streaming down her face. "Oh my god, Sarah, you should have seen your face!" She wiped her eyes and laughed even harder.

"Bec? Bite me!" Sarah flounced off to remove her makeup, trying to hide the grin that was struggling to break free.

"Aww, come on, sis, where’s your sense of humor?"

"Out on the bus," Sarah grumbled. "You think you’re so funny, don’t you?"

"Actually, Nick says-"

"Bec, that was a rhetorical question," Sarah said, rolling her eyes. "It didn’t need an answer. And anyway, I don’t really give a rat’s ass WHAT Nick thinks."

"Ooh, I’m gonna tell him you said that."

"God Bec, who died and left you in such a good mood?" Sarah turned around and looked at Becca, who was happily dancing around the dressing room.

"I dunno," she shrugged. "I’m just sick of being in the midst of a damn tragedy every day. It all came together when I was out there talking to the crowd tonight."

"Yeah?" Sarah was giving Becca her full attention now.

"Mmm hmm," she nodded. "I realized that Lou can only have power over me if I let him. No, I don’t want my one night of ‘passionate romance’ with Andrew broadcast all over the place," she said with a snort, "but if he does it, he does it. I’m happy now, Sarah. I have the perfect life and the perfect family, and nothing that bastard can do will take that away from me."

"Wow."

"What?" Becca replied with a smile.

"Nothin’. Just …nothin’, Bec. There’s nothing more I can add to that."

"Garrett’s out on the bus."

"What?" Sweet heaven she was getting more like Nick every day, changing the subject of a conversation in mid-stream.

"Gar-rett," Becca said slowly. "My son, remember him? He’s out on the bus with the daughter of one of the makeup artists. She said she’d keep an eye on him for me."

"Becca!" Sarah was aghast.

"Oh for crying all night, Sarah, lighten up. Billy’s out there too. You think I’d just turn my son over to some stranger?"

"Well …"

"Yeah, baby, I feel the love." Becca snickered and tossed a pillow off the couch at Sarah. "And don’t change, we have that meet and greet after the show."

"Oh shit. Do we have to?"

"Yes, now suck it up and put on happy face, Little Mary Sunshine."

"Bec?"

"Yeah, I know…"

"BITE ME!" they said in unison before cracking up high fiving each other.
