Part 585
To say that the benefits in New York and Washington were emotional would be an understatement. Each one had memories of that fateful day and it was like it had just happened yesterday in some ways while in other ways, it had been an eternity, not six weeks. Being with others honoring the heroes helped them ease past the memories.
Howie and Sarah glowed in the joy that they were together and had their daughter with them while Nick and Becca proudly showed off Garrett. Good had emerged from that horrific day…a bond that was unbreakable and a new life to help the world rise above the senseless destruction.

Typical. Sarah was about to make an appearance and her
morning sickness was in high gear. She’d made three trips to the bathroom to
throw-up in less than ten minutes but Becca and Howie were both there for her.
As she stood up, Howie wiped her face with a cool rag. "You’re gonna be fine,
‘Angel’," he reassured.
"Sure, she will," said Becca cheerfully as they rejoined her. She handed Sarah a glass of ginger ale.
"Thanks, Becca," said Sarah as she took a sip of the cool drink. Looking at Howie’s watch, she said, "’D’, you need to get out of here before the fans catch you."
"I don’t want to leave you with you like this," said Howie brushing her hair back.
"I’ll be fine, ‘D’. Go on and Becca will come get you if things get worse."
Howie searched her eyes as he played with her hair. He knew she got like this when she was about to do something new. "I’ll see you in a few, ‘Angel’," whispered Howie giving her a sweet kiss on the forehead. "I love you."
"I love you too, ‘D’."
Howie started out the door but stopped to look back. Sarah had taken a seat and Becca was trying to help her with her hair as they chattered away about the benefits and TRL. Sarah was still pale but she was relaxed, taking deep breaths like he’d taught her. His heart swelled with pride and love for this woman who held his heart.
Sensing him watching, Sarah looked up only to receive his trademark wink. She blew him a kiss and he disappeared, no words exchanged but both knew the depth of their love.
Becca looked into the mirror at the glow on Sarah’s face. "Dreams do come true."
"Yeah, they do," sighed Sarah dreamily as she fingered her wedding rings. "Thanks to my wonderful husband and terrific friends. Thank you for being here."
"Where else would I be?"
"Oh, I don’t know. Off plotting my demise."
"Who says I’m NOT?"
"Oh, gee…thank you SOOO much," smirked Sarah as Becca gave her a kiss on the cheek.
"What are friends for?" retorted Becca as an intern stuck her head in.
"Mrs. Dorough, you’ve got about ten minutes to air."
"Thank you," mumbled Sarah as she scrambled for the bathroom.
"She gonna be okay?"
"Oh, sure. She’ll only barf on camera once or twice," smiled Becca innocently. As the door closed, Becca broke out in hysterics at the horrified expression the intern had had.
Sarah had heard Becca’s comment and as she emerged from the bathroom, she was shaking her head. "You’ve been around Nick too long."
"What?"
"You know EXACTLY what. You know full well I won’t throw up once the cameras roll."
"Yeah, I know and you know but SHE doesn’t. Make ‘em sweat it because you KNOW she’ll tell Carson and HE will wonder."
"REBECCA CARTER!"
"Yes….Mrs. Dorough," replied Becca.
"You are a SICK, EVIL, and TWISTED woman!"
"And your point?"
"No point. Just stating the obvious. Help me finish with my hair."
Sarah and Becca went back to the task of getting Sarah’s hair just perfect and when Carson came to get Sarah, she was ready.
